rust rust rust rust rust rust

I noticed the gas tank was hanging lower than usual. Upon inspection the main frame on the drivers side by the gas tank was almost non existent on the underside affecting the bracket mount for the gas tank. I found a manufacturer who makes a sleeve that will go over the damage and reinforce the rot of the frame. No where else on the body of the truck is there excessive rust/ rot other than the frame. To me it looks like a poorly made steel product which looks 50 years old not 11. Because of the modification to the frame, no one in my state of Vermont will pass a vehicle inspection because the state law will not allow non factory modifications without certification from the manufacturer. At the very least Ford Motor Corporation should be aware of these frame failures and have some remedy to repair and or replace excessive rust/ rot on the frame.

rust

Took truck in for maintenance. Was called over by mechanic. He showed me the whole frame of the truck is rusted out. The truck has 100,000 miles and body is clean for its age. Local dealership quoted $6,000.00 to repair. A small auto collision shop quoted +$3,000.00. Both agreed this should never have happened. This is a serious risk that could result in bodily injury or death. Vehicle is no longer safe to drive on the road.

Several other manufactures have had the same issue and have taken corrective action to repair or reimburse for the expense. It is documented out on the internet that it is an issue. Has anyone else had this happen and has Ford assisted in any way.

Update from Sep 30, 2018: Just starting to research. There are 16 other complaints on this site for the same issue. I have been advised/suggested reporting the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Ford Motor Company and the NHTSA work together to proactively identify areas of concern through investigation of consumer and dealer feedback. During an investigation, Ford cooperates fully with NHTSA. If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign. You can contact them here: http://www.nhtsa.gov/Contact or by calling 1-888-327-4236.
