I was at the grocery store, when I couldn’t get the truck to fire up and run. It would only turn over and just before driving it the truck was just fine. Had to pay to tow the truck to my house when I saw the fuel pump fuse was MELTED!!!!!

fuel pump relay melted

Well known issue, not covered under warranty or recall. Based on subjective feeling from # of google search hits, this should be a recall. #27 fuse location for fuel pump uses a micro blade fuse. There is too much amperage routinely through this circuit and it causes the fuse and fuse block terminals to get hot and eventually soot up or melt.

When this happens the continuity of the circuit is broken and the fuel pump no longer operates. This will stop a running engine, or prevent an engine from starting. Engine is healthy otherwise, cranks fine, just no fuel. Ford actually manufactures a "move a fuse" kit to rectify this issue. Ford EL3Z-14293-A Genuine Kit. Installs in a few hours time with standard tools and a good soldering iron or suppose you could use crimp connector.

F-150 XLT 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission

The vehicle had been performing fine. Made several stops that day. Went to start it for the third time that day, but it would not start. Battery was strong. Starter was cranking. It seemed as if it was not getting any fuel. After several starting attempts had the vehicle towed to auto repair business.

They said the fuel pump fuse was melting or burning up due to excessive voltage. A fuse relocation kit was installed based on an advisory from the manufacturer. $202 repair plus $55 tow and all is working well. This is definitely a manufacturer issue which the cost of repair should be covered.

The truck started normally on the morning of 5/15/16 so I had no indication there was an issue. I stopped at an intersection to let traffic clear and when I turned the truck stalled momentarily before regaining power. I pulled into a parking lot to check for issues but couldn't get the issue to repeat itself. I went inside the store for a few items and when I returned the truck wouldn't start, it would only turn over. I immediately looked for the fuel safety shut off switch location and re-set procedure in my owners manual thinking that it had somehow gotten activated. I followed the procedure but no luck. I had the truck towed to Hunt Ford in Franklin Ky since they are the dealership that performs all of my service work on this truck. The next day I received a call from one of the service coordinators and he informed that the issue was a melted fuel pump relay. He stated that there had been a technical service bulletin issued to the dealers about the issue and the proper repair for the problem. They repaired the issue for a cost of $210 which was 2 hours labor plus parts and supplies. He also stated that my truck was the second one they had repaired for this issue THAT DAY! This should definitely be a recall issue in my opinion.
