I remote started my truck and let it run to warm up. I got in and pushed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. I turned the ignition on and the information center said, "Brake fluid low". I turned the truck off, got out and looked under the truck for signs of brake fluid (there was none), opened the hood and my reservoir was empty. I took the master cylinder off and the brake booster was full of brake fluid. I had to replace both, the master cylinder and brake booster.

The master cylinder failed and caused brake fluid to be sucked into the vacuum brake booster. The result is total hydraulic failure of the brakes and a safety hazard. This is a known failure for the 2014 F150's with the 3.5L Ecoboost for which there was a recall. My truck with the 5.0L motor uses the same part.

RE: Safety Recall 16S24 Why is my 2014 F-150 not covered under Ford's safety recall (16S24) of a defective brake master cylinder? 16S24 covers defective master cylinders for the 3.5L V-6 Ecoboost engine, but not the 3.7L V-6 engine. Upon further research, it appears that both the aforementioned engines use the same master cylinder. See Motorcraft part no. BRMC203 (Brake Master Cylinder). According to Ford, the master cylinders' rear seal fails, thus leaking brake fluid into the attached brake power booster which causes pedal fatigue and possible loss of front brakes. My F-150 has a 3.7L V-6 engine, which is not covered under the recall. However, my F-150 is exhibiting the same master cylinder failure as is referenced in 16S24. My master cylinder has leaked into the power booster and the vacuum line attached the power booster has siphoned all brake fluid into the engine (approximately 60 ounces). The engine then expelled said brake fluid into the exhaust system causing white smoke to emit from the tail pipe. I was going to get some lunch and I noticed a low brake fluid message was on. So I popped the hood to check fluid level and sure enough it was. I went to auto zone purchased some fluid and filled the reservoir and all seemed fine, but before I could get back to the office the message low brake fluid appeared again. Again I filled the reservoir with fluid at the end of my shift, the message went away and I headed home. As preceded home the message appeared again and I had to purchase more fluid and repeatedly filled the reservoir to make it home. After I got home I looked around the vehicle for leaks and there was none. I explained what happened to my mechanic and he told me my master cylinder was bad and that all the extra fluid I had put into the reservoir had leaked into my booster. About the same time I got a letter stating that a class action lawsuit was being filed in regard to brake failure and here I am.

Ford defrauded the U.S. Government by knowingly installing defectively-engineered parts in my truck as part of a recall and then claiming the issue was repaired. Ford obviously had so many catastrophic brake system failures it necessitated a federal recall. However, Ford admitted they never redesigned the faulty parts to mitigate the problem from happening again. This it tantamount to providing a liver transplant patient with a liver from a chronic alcoholic. Ford absolutely knew the affected parts were defectively-designed and/or defectively manufactured, yet chose to put those exact same parts back in the truck and then lie to the federal government that said parts fixed the problem. All Ford achieved was kicking the can down the road. Not surprisingly, my brake system catastrophically failed AGAIN after Ford "fixed it" during the recall. I guarantee there are other owners out there who have experienced the same problem. Ford MUST be investigated for fraud and held accountable. When I contacted Ford about the problem, their customer service supervisor said they refuse to cover the cost of the repair because it had been more than a year since parts THEY KNEW were defective were installed. Even Ford's executive team refuses to acknowledge the immorality in this situation, and has also expressly refused to reimburse me. They said it doesn't matter if I plowed into a bunch of kids, they are not in any way responsible for putting known defective parts back in my truck. Surely this is not acceptable to NHTSA, as your agency exists precisely to PREVENT this sort of corrupt behavior by automakers. FORD LIED TO YOUR OFFICE. Will that behavior be excused, or will it be investigated and prosecuted" If someone slams into a Girl Scout parade and kills a bunch of children because their supposedly "fixed" brakes failed, will your office be satisfied it did everything it could to prevent that, knowing Ford defrauded you"

I only used my VIN to get this far. The issue that I have concerns a very important safety feature that I have yet to see on any vehicle. With more and more vehicles being produced with automatic braking systems, I am wondering why the automakers don't have a specific light option on the rear of the vehicle that illuminates when the ABS is activated. There are still millions of vehicles on the road that don't have ABS. This feature would inform following drivers the difference between slowing down and quickly stopping. It could be placed in the middle of the rear brake light that is in the upper middle of the rear window. So, you are probably wondering why I am bringing this to your attention. That is because I have wasted 30k of my own money on 2 different marketing firms trying to get my patent noticed, with no luck. The patent number is 9,643,535 B1. Check it out. I dare you.

Hello - My 2014 F150 experiencing this issue, but FORD says my VIN is not on the recall list. Truck pulled brake fluid into the engine from faulty brake booster / master, lost all brakes, lots of smoke, brake fluid reservoir empty. Brake Master Cylinder May Leak into Booster NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V332 A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel and feel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, possibly requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Vehicle was repaired under recall Ford Safety Recall 16S24, due to failing brake master cylinder which was leading to total brake failure. The subject vehicle (VIN 1FTFW1CT6EFB00788) was taken into a Ford Service center to perform the recall repairs in Mar 2017. Ford replaced the mater cylinder at the time under the recall. Recently (10/13/2022) the vehicle experienced complete brake failure while driving with all the same symptoms described in the original Ford Safety Recall 16S24. Audible chime with full screen screen message on the dash cluster warning of brake issues. The vehicle coasted to a stop after taking appropriate actions (downshift and e-brake) to come to a stop without crashing or injuries. The vehicle was towed to a Ford Service center for diagnoses. Ford diagnoses was rear seal failure of the master cylinder which allowed all the brake fluid from the reservoir to leak into the brake booster, leading to brake failure. This is the exact scenario described in Ford Safety Recall 16S24. Neither the Ford Service Center or Ford Corporate Customer service (Ford Case # CAS 39130043) will acknowledge repairs as they indicated that the recall is no longer applicable to my vehicle. I don't know if Ford used the same suspect master cylinder P/N to execute the repair, however it seems the issue described in the original recall is still an issue even after recall repairs are performed. At this point, Ford is charging me for the repairs to fix the issue, however the greater concern is that people driving the vehicle in the recall after getting this recall completed might be at risk of crash and injury. Also learning online that I am not unique with the issue described above. Please let me know if there is any additional information such as the latest Ford diagnoses report or documentation is needed to help further escalate this complaint.

Catastrophic brake failure. Recal 16S24 was completed on this truck, but the "repair" failed. Either the same defective parts were put back in or new but still defectively-designed parts were installed. Current symptoms are identical to the text in the recall. Pedal goes to the floor, large quantities of brake fluid are pumped out of the master cylinder reservoir, little to no observable leaking of brake fluid is observed, so per the recall fluid is being pumped into the vacuum booster. Ford refuses to address the problem. Their official policy is no recall will be repaired more than once even if the supposed "repair" also catastrophically fails. Their goal appears to be to make the "repair" last just barely longer than 1 year so they can deny coverage thereafter and make the customer deal with the repeated failure. Failure was instantaneous in that the truck was just sitting in the driveway. Brakes were fine the night before, but the next day when I went to drive it the pedal went to the floor and the brake fluid reservoir was essentiall empty. Had I been driving or towing a trailer this could easily have resulted in multiple fatalities. Ford was adamant that subsequent failures are not their responsibility.

The master cylinder failed when brake pedal was pressed. A complete total brake failure happened and i had no braking power but the parking brake, Had i entered into the main traffic and applied my brakes nothing would happen and i probably would have had an accident. I didn't have time to look for any warning lites as i was focused on beong able to stop the truck. As for my safety and others it could have been bad if not me being able to stop the truck.

The brakes stopped working and I hit my office trailer this morning and almost one of the workers on the jobsite. I didn't do any damage to the trailer or the body of my truck due to the low speed I was traveling. I have been working on cars my whole life and although I am not a certified auto mechanic I am 100% positive that the fluid from the master cylinder has leaked into the booster. Before I arrived to my jobsite the Brake light came on due to the brake fluid reservoir being empty. There is already a recall for this very dangerous failure and it should be fords responsibility to make my truck safe just like others with the Same Exact Make, Models, Years and issues.

Brake warning light came on and brake pedal went further down toward floorboard. Drove cautiously to auto parts store for brake fluid. Thankfully I wasn-€™t driving at higher speeds on a major highway. Filled empty reservoir and made it to independent auto repair shop about 3 miles away. Reservoir empty again. Mechanic says brake master cylinder is leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. Informed me of safety recall 16S24, but my VIN was not included. Same make, model, engine size and manufacturing plant as recall. Called local Ford dealership and they would not fix for free, because VIN not included. Repair cost me $1395.54! I do not understand why my truck is not covered under the recall and request a further investigation as to why Ford is not responsible for the reimbursement of the failed safety components.
