Shortly after turning on the rear window defroster the vehicle interior began to fill with a strong electrical burning odor and then within about 30 seconds the back glass shattered with a loud pop that was very startling and distracting. I took photos but plan to have the window replaced as soon as possible since I need it to get to work. This happened while driving at a slow speed but if it had happened at high speed then it could have caused me to swerve and lead to an accident. I called the Ford dealer and they were not aware of this being a problem. However, the retail glass repair shop said that they frequently see this issue with F-150s. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. Aside from the electrical burning smell there were no indications the impending glass shattering. I did some internet searching and found that many ofther F150 owners have had the exact same issue and all report that it occurred when the rear window defroster was activated.

The windshield spraying system freezes when temperatures drop below freezing. This is an extremely dangerous and hazardous situation. Even when using -35 degree windshield washer fluid (well below recommendation) my windshield has been frozen over and covered in grime. The frozen system does not allow for the windshield to be sprayed and cleared. The vehicle is undriveable in this condition. This is a known problem with a technical bulletin issued. Ford-€™s resolution is that the customer pays for this remediation. This is unsatisfactory as it is a clear design and safety flaw.

While driving on the freeway with defroster on in rainy weather conditions, the rear window spontaneously shattered and made a very loud popping sound as though it exploded. There was no impact that caused the spontaneous shattering. Three children under the age of 9 were seated in the back in car seats / booster seats. The windows behind them broke. They were in danger of the entire window falling through until we could safely exit the freeway and pull over. Upon parking, The window fell through and tiny pieces glass fell into the the truck bed and onto the back seats. No one was injured, though the children in the back were distressed by the incident. The entire back window was completely shattered and the edges of the window were cracked in a jagged pattern. And insurance claim was filed. No police report or other inspections have been completed by insurance or the dealer. There was no warning signal that we in danger of the window spontaneously shattering. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Driving down the street, without the rear defrost on, and heard a large boom, which I discovered the next morning was the rear window blowing out on my truck. Looks like this is a common situation with these types of vehicles and Ford is not taking responsibility for the problem. There is a massive blog, with dozens of accounts of similar experiences. Vehicle was going abprox 5 mph as I was just leaving from a stop light. I was on a city street in reno, nv. This happened on 1/27/21 about 5:30pm. I contact nv energy to see if a transformer had blown, checked vehicle for impact form an object, and no evidence of either. Glass now in the vehicle and continues to fall apart. Just lucky I didn't have passengers in the back seat!!

Since purchased, the windshield washers freeze making for unsafe driving every winter anytime the temp gets below 32. This creates an extremely hazardous driving condition. Unacceptable when you have to pull off the road and keep throwing snow on the windshield to clear.

I woke up and remote started my truck before leaving for work on a 40 degree Fahrenheit day. I was 2 minutes into my drive and then all I heard was a huge bang, I seriously thought someone had just shot a gun. I looked back and my rear window was just completely shattered for no reason. This makes me very upset because I had just gotten the truck back from getting a new windshield that cracked for no reason 2 days ago, thanks.

Truck was warming up and something smelled like an electrical fire and suddenly the rear window shattered. Contacts for the rear defroster pulled from window causing electrical arcing that started melting a piece of plastic causing a hot spot on the window that led to it shattering. Vehicle was stationary while this happened.

I was driving to work after dropping my daughter off and out of nowhere I heard a very loud pop sound. I looked in my rear view mirror and the entire back window was shattered. I was on a main road. Smooth. Going approx 40-50mph. No cars were behind me. I pulled over to see if it was struck by a rock or falling object... no clear impact. It was evenly shattered across the entire window. It was about 65 degrees F. defrost was not on at the time. Smelled similar to that burning smell after an airbag deploys. I drove straight to a dealership and they said they never heard of that happening before "woltz & wind Ford, Inc" in pittsburgh. Thank god this didn't happen with my newborn and 2 year old in the back. I was shocked to find the number for similar stories online. Ford should address this. Imagine if I were driving with my kids in the winter across the state and this happened. We typically drive through the night. It's not safe and should be addressed. I want Ford to cover the expense to replace.

Windshield wiper continue to operate in low intermittent when the switch is in the off position - the driver cannot turn off the wipers. Any time the truck's engine is on, the wipers run. Ford Motor Company published online tsb 15-0061 on April 27, 2015, which addressed the problem for model years 2011-2014 for Explorer, F150's, edges, mkx's and F-Super Duty vehicles. The bulletin call for the installation of a "new wiper/malfunction switch, which at my dealer costs $900. Obviously, a vehicle cannot be safely operated with the wiper running in dry weather. Eventually, the wiper blades would melt and streak the windshield, thus blurring the driver's vision. Repairing the problem is not is not optional, it mus be done. Ford knew it had problems with the equipment in model years 2011-2014. I have a 2015 and the problem still exists. Not only have they not solved the problem inn newer models, they failed to re-engineer the wiper system to make the repair less costly. Replacing the switch requires disassembling and reassembling the steering column, which is labor intensive and thus expensive. Ford has managed to limit its exposure by calling the problem a warranty issue. I commute 80 miles a day in metro atlanta. The weather has been relatively dry in recent years, so I blew through the mileage limits on the warranty with little need to use my wipers. Working wipers are necessary safety equipment. Ford knew they had a problem for several years, but did not solve the issue. The cost is not affordable for many americans. Ford should bare the burden of repairing equipment that they knew was faulty, but continued to install in new vehicles.
