F-150 XLT 5.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

The pickup would randomly die while idling either while in park and/or at a stop light and such and never gave a CEL but would start back up with no issue. In some cases it would start to run rough and seemed to be missing but would recover and other times it would not. Took it to the Ford Dealer in Dickinson, North Dakota starting in December of 2019 and up to today, 2/14/22, they still have not remedied the issue.

They have it now for a scheduled two day going to throw a bunch of parts at it and hope we fix it attempt. On my last visit I made I went to the dealership because I actually got a CEL on which they say indicated a cam phasor sensor. So that is when they decided to order up every possible part and schedule to change them out. I have never been to a Ford dealership that had mechanics that knew anything and I can list off the many I have been to. (On a side note Ford shops never have a shortage on Ford cars out front to repair.)

Anyway I asked them if they had changed out or checked the cam phasers on one of the previous visits I had made in an attempt to rule something out, and since this is a company vehicle and manage by ARI, I assume they didn't do it because they got orders not but for whatever reason this dealership did nothing other than look at it and maybe run some tests - but NEVER actually made any changes to see if they could effect the problem. I will never again go to the dealers in Dickinson North Dakota, Riverton WY, and Spearfish SD.

F-150 Lariat 5.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 73,000 miles

I bought this truck in March 2018 with 73k miles on it and about a week after I got it , it started having issues. When I get off the freeway and come to a complete stop, my engine stalled and doesn't throw a code. After 3 months of driving it has happened 6 times. Finally after driving a 500 mile road trip, it threw a code p0012 saying the camshaft is over retarded. I took to a dealer and they said it was a cam phaser, I told them I purchased an extended warranty for the truck and they contacted the warranty company. The warranty company said they will cover the part and 3 hours of labor. The job is 9.5 hours of labor and there's tax, shop fees, and oil filter that needs to be replaced. The bill is $2800 and the warranty said they will cover $551. So now I'm hit with a $2300 bill 3 months after I bought the truck.

F-150 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

While driving and having to stop at a light (to merge on to a major highway) the truck started to jerk and suddenly stopped. The lights and radio were still on so didn't think it would be the battery. Tried to start it up again and nothing. After 20-30 mins of having it turned off, I attempted to start it up again and it did. Drove home, no issues BUT the wrench symbol is on. It says check MANUAL. I called the dealer and he said he would have to take a look at it because he doesn't know what it could be. ITS a lease so they better figure it out for their sake. I'll let everyone know what they concluded.

F-150 Lariat 3.5L Twin Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,421 miles

F150 has been towed in to Ford +4 times, multiple dealers have had a chance to repair. When the tank shows below 1/4 tank (36 gallon tank), if the truck is parked at any incline/decline then it will either not successfully start after parked for 2 hours or the truck will start but only idle for less than 3 minutes before shutting off and become unable to successfully start.

Battery is not an issue- vehicle continues to crank until the 60 second crank limit is achieved, and then I am locked out of attempting to start the truck for 15 minutes.

The truck usually has more than 6 gallons of fuel in the tank when this happens, although the miles-till-empty estimation shows much less. After moving around (aka being towed or the very safe task of coasting in neutral with the power off) the truck usually recovers after a few minutes and can start.
