F-350 7.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 180,000 miles

Was driving home from a horse show towing a trailer w/a very expensive 2yr.old in it,when the truck bucked a couple times jerking the trailer and throwing the horse around. Then the truck just died! My horse was coming unglued at that point & we were basically in the middle of nowhere! I was able to get the truck & 1/2 the trailer off the road. It wouldn't restart & I was left in a very dangerous situation! Thank goodness a farmer happened by & went to get chains to pull me off the road & his trailer to get my horse home. Thanks Ford! What a piece of sh*t!! And dangerous isn't the word!!

engine dies unexpectedly while driving

Truck died turning off of a major highway. Blocking both lanes on side street. I lost all power included power steering. when I am finally off the road where I can look at it, I see a steel braided hose loose under the hood. Doing my research, it is a high pressure oil hose that is connected to the engine block and the high pressure oil pump (HPOP). You can buy a rebuild kit to rebuild the hose for $30 at dieselorings.com (one kit only rebuilds one hose) but after seeing what the kit includes (Viton o'ring, tephlon o'ring, and a metal clip about the thickness of a paperclip), it looks like ford designed this 'quick connect' to fail. 2 o'rings and a clip is suppose to hold back 2,000+ PSI??? I am currently in the process of upgrading from the stock hose to a hydraulic hose. The hydraulic hoses and fitting are designed to hold over 5,000 PSI with temps well above 200F. I should not have that problem with the hose again. Remember to only tighten the fitting to 25 lbs/ft torque or you will strip the threads.

F-350 7.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Unsure of what to do. The engine just shut off while driving at 70 miles per hour, towing a horse trailer with two horses. Not a comfortable situation! Since you lose power steering and brakes, i don't want to put myself and my horses in danger until this thing is fixed!

F-350 XLT 7.3L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Problem is initially intermittent (truck dies, but immediately restarts.) It takes progressively longer to get the truck started, and eventually it will not restart. If the problem is the camshaft position sensor, the tach will not register any rpm while you're cranking the engine. Ford currently has a recall on this part.

F-350 XLT

I have a 2002 Ford F-350 7.3L Turbo Diesel. It runs great most of the time but the last 10,000 miles I have started having a problem with it shutting off while driving. At first it seemed to only happen once every 2-3 weeks but now it seems to be getting more frequent. It's very erratic. Sometimes the RPM just drops to zero and then it will start going again w/o me doing anything. Other times I have to stop and it will start up with no problems. Lately though I seem to have to sit 2-3 minutes before it will fire back up and then drive away with no problems. I have changed the fuel filter w/ no help.

F-350 7.3l Diesel

  • 101,000 miles

This truck runs absolutely wonderful except when it rains, or when it is very humid. Then it will cut out, jerking if running over 55, then the engine light comes on. If the truck is coasting or idling, or when I make a turn, it will die without warning. I have changed the fuel filter, air filter, and added fuel additive. the fuel additive seems to help a little, but this problem persists, and i hope it doesnt die when im making a left in oncoming traffic. the only other symptom, if related, is an intermittent clicking sound coming from the relay that controls the brake lights.
