Out of the blue the door just wouldn't latch. Had to use a tie down strap from one rear door handle to the other to hold the door closed.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, REAR DOOR FLEW OPEN. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. SITE ON INTERNET SUGGESTED DON'T CONTINUE TO DRIVE CAR BUT TOW TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. WE TIED DOOR AND DROVE TO DEALERSHIP, FRIENDLY FORD. DECATUR BLVD LAS VEGAS. WERE TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE PART WOULD HAVE TO ORDER AND WE WOULD HAVE TO RETURN WHEN PART COMES IN. ALTHOUGH ALL DOORS ARE DEFECTIVE REFUSED TO ORDER MORE THAN ONE LATCH AT THIS TIME. WE HAVE ONLY ONE CAR AND ARE EXPECTED TO DRIVE AS IS UNTIL THEY ORDER THE REST OF THE LATCHES. DID NOT KNOW HOW LONG THAT WILL BE. ASKED WHAT IF WIFE FALLS OUT OF CAR, DEALER REPLIED SHE SHOULD HAVE HER SEAT BELT ON. WHAT IF CHILDREN ARE IN CAR? VERY POOR ACTION FROM FORD FOR SUCH A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. SOMEONE COULD FALL OUT AND KILLED BY THIS DEFECT. THIS IS CRIMINAL ON FORDS PART.

When I first bought my car I found out after a week that the gas tank had debris in it from the factory that caused the gas hand to stick, that was fixed under warranty.

No problems until November 21, 2014 when I was going to leave an apartment I was renting to move back into my house. I shut the back door but it bounced back and hit me, the latch wouldn't catch at all, I'm just glad I wasn't driving down the road, I don't know what would have happened if I was. I know there have been more complaints about this latch problem. My car door is being held shut by a strap, my car is my only transportation and I need this repaired. I don't think latches should break in a car that's just almost 4 years old.

Fiesta SE 1.6L I-4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 28,000 miles

Driver's side read door failed to latch. I rarely use the rear doors and at 28,000 miles it's a bit odd for a door to fail. Even if you close it and try and lock it, it won't stay closed. Luckily, there were no passengers or pets on the back seat at the time because someone or something could have definitely fallen out.

This needs to be addressed and I was told that this item was out of warranty for my vehicle. I don't mind paying for parts that require general maintenance to be replaced but for a door latch to fail on a 2011 vehicle... something isn't right here.

rear door latch failure. Door will not stay shut on its own without jamming something in it, a piece of newspaper, or the like, Or tying the doors together to keep it closed. We do not have children and these doors are hardly ever used. I just found out that there is a large problem with these latches and that they are on back order. This situation is dangerous and unacceptable. I cannot imagine how someone with small children would feel safe or keep any confidence in a Ford product is this happened to them. Thank God and the NTSA for seat belts! Ford should get off their backsides and issue an immediate recall on this. They should at least work harder to make sure that there are parts available to repair this problem.

I took the 2011 Fiesta to my Ford service department well over a week ago to have a rear door latch replaced. They are unable to get the correct part at the current time due to what they have told me is a back-order of more than 2500 of the same part nationwide for the 2011 Fiesta. Whether that is correct, or they are just trying to appease my ever growing anger over the situation, I don't know. I do know that the car has been sitting in the garage since I first took it in because it cannot be driven without tying the door shut and because the interior light does not go off because the door does not latch. Without the door latching, the battery has to be unhooked when the car is not being driven or the battery will go dead. Luckily the the warranty is still in effect, but I have to wonder if Ford is having this much trouble with door latches and getting parts for this model when will they do a total recall to solve the problem. I'm sure when the other door latch finally goes I'll be paying out of my own pocket, and guaranteed, if one goes, it's just a matter of time before the other does. In the meantime, I guess the car will just sit in the garage until Ford is able to produce enough of the parts to fill the ever increasing back-order demands.
