driver door ajar sensor stays on ,interior lights stays on doors will not lock,alarm goes off when car is parked and locked,and have to disconnect battery at night and when away from home .have a lovely wife and 5 lovely grands that often travels with me . this can be a safety issue as well as lead to criminal activity.i really would encourage FORD to recall all 2013 flexes and fix problems on all doors.please note i have been driving fords for 43 years and would love to keep doing so , please recall and fix problems. mckinneym ALBANY GA

I see a number of people have this same problem. The vehicle does not register than my passenger door is closed causing the warning message on my dash to come on, preventing my automatic door lock system from engaging, and causing my interior lights to remain on as I begin driving. Sometimes opening and shutting the door works, sometimes it doesn't. This has also caused my car alarm has also gone off multiple times for no reason. This has happened several times when I was at work, much to the amusement of my co-workers. Fortunately I've been near enough to turn it off each time and haven't had issues with my battery. I had this same issue when the vehicle was under warranty and it was "repaired" twice at no cost to me. Now that the vehicle is no longer under warranty the dealership has told me that they will cover half the cost of the repair, but I'm on the hook for the rest (approx $250 CDN). I'm pissed as this is obviously a product issues and not just wear and tear. Stand behind your products FORD!

rear passenger door sensor faulty Battery died for no particular reason. Replaced battery and realized rear driver sensor showing door is ajar although it isn't---causes interior lights to stay on while driving and when car has been shut off for extended time. Additional electrical issues now occurring!!! :(

Windshield wipers stay on after turned off Auto locks don't function when driving sometimes Alarm goes off at random times throughout day and night Radio stays on even after exiting car sometimes

I WANT THIS FIXED AND I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR IT since tons of people have similar complaints!

My vehicle door latch went out in March 2016. It is a constant pain in my butt since the stupid thing beeps every time I stop and go. I travel 15 miles on a busy hwy which is stop and go the entire drive! And I have to go through a rough section of town at 6:30am to get to my job site. I do not feel safe in my own vehicle not being able to lock my doors when traveling, especially alone and in the dark! My attorney has papers drawn up already stating that if anything were to happen to me on my drive to work there is a lawsuit in place. FORD has given me the runaround for months. There is a recall for this same issue on every Ford vehicle except the Flex. What does is take to put a recall in place? Someone snatched from their car at a stop light? Another thing, I can't lock the car because the alarm goes off constantly. And the interior lights frequently go on and off at all times of the day and night because it thinks the door is open! I have had to replace the battery for this reason. This is the 2nd Flex I've owned. Never had an issue with the first one. This one is 4 years newer and it's been a nightmare.

I have been experiencing issues with my passenger door ajar light coming on, and now have started having my rear door ajar light coming on as well. The dome lights will come on, when starting car and while driving. if the kids lean on the door, the lights come on. as i am pulling out of a dark parking lot, my dome lights are all on! my car alarm will go off at random times because the sensor is not registering that the door is closed. my lights stay on when my car is parked, letting any and all passer-bys see into my car. this has drained my battery to where i have become stranded while out of town. We have had to jump my car many times and then my car just stopped even taking a charge. I just had to purchase a brand new battery yesterday because my battery was done.

Ford need to fix it my immediate concern. Aside from the obvious annoyance of the alerts, is the safety element. We have a toddler and an infant that are in the Flex regularly. There is absolutely no way to secure the vehicle for the duration of a commute. As described, all of the doors unlock when the alert sounds and if we try to lock the doors they all simply unlock. Obviously there is no price that one can place on the safety of their children. However, if this is a known issue, Ford should step up to the plate and do what is right.

Interior Dome light won't turn off since door thinks it is open. The Rear Passenger door is closed but the car thinks it is open. Keeps beeping when you drive. Dealer will not cover, Ford will not cover, and claims that this is not a "known issue" but it is. Ford even made a special machine to try and clean or "shock" these switches, and it will cost you $300-500 per door to clean it, there is no warranty with cleaning the switch. Since then I have had to have 5, yes 5, cleaned. I know the car only has four doors. The first one fixed is now doing it again. I hate Ford. I wrote a letter, called corporate, no one cares. $45,000 car. I can't even lock the doors with the key chain because it thinks the doors are open. OMG. Well done Ford. Well done.

Well, add me to the list of pissed off Flex owners. Driver "Door Ajar" warning started coming on intermittently a couple months ago even when the door was firmly closed. Since the weather has improved here in Ontario, the problem is worse...warning is on constantly. I can put up with a warning light on the dash - but this over-engineered poor-quality piece of crap beeps constantly when I'm backing up (which is on top of the reverse assist and "cross traffic" assist ding-dongs and beeps). And the other bit of torture is that every time I come to a stop while driving, it ding-dongs and the dash tells me to shift the car in park....Oh, and then last night we had the phantom car alarm issue as well - Awesome! So proud to be the owner of our Canadian-made Ford! I have logged the complaint with Ford Canada who kindly suggested that the dealership would be able to fix that for me (duh) - I don't have $600-$700 a pop to replace these obviously defective parts. I will go to the dealership to have the problem diagnosed and get my rant on record there - but they won't be getting any more of my money to fix this nonsense. Oh, and the rep at Ford Canada quickly shot down the notion that this has anything to do with the glitchy SYNC system - so the repair wouldn't be covered under the extended warranty for that.

I have never complained on a website about anything - but this has me annoyed enough that I wanted to contribute to the public record on this issue and add a voice to demand a recall with the rest of you. I can accept some normal wear and tear and the odd failure of a part in a car - but the poop storm that this little switch causes to the functionality and safety of the car is enough to turn me off of Ford forever. Time to shop for a Lada or something without so many gizmos. I was concerned about this when I purchased the vehicle - I guess the time of reckoning has come.

We are experiencing the exact same "door ajar" issue on my wife’s 2013 Ford Flex. Is there a fix aside from spending hundreds at the dealership? This is the first Ford vehicle that we’ve ever owned (usually a Mazda family and recent addition was a Toyota Prius late last year). The Ford Flex SEL was purchased in December 2013. We absolutely loved it at first. We even paid to have leather installed on all rows… completely satisfied until now…

For a month and a half now, spontaneously the door ajar indicator lights up, the chimes alert, and ALL doors unlock. This happened maybe once at week at first but now it is a daily occurrence, probably alerting a minimum of 5 times during a 30 minute drive. We contacted our local “Family Ford” dealership, and since we are just out of warranty (almost at 40,000 miles now) they will inspect for a fee then apply the fee towards the repairs if we proceed with a repair. Has anyone in this forum found an affordable sound solution to this issue?

So as a consumer we are looking for Ford to acknowledge that they used sub-par materials and to make it right. Since we clearly are not willing to sacrifice safety any longer, our final solution will simply include trading in this vehicle and blasting our story/opinion of this situation throughout social media to caution others. A quick Google search of this issue clearly show that these are not isolated incidents, and moreover, they are not limited to a particular Ford model.
