Key turned all the way to start position and all auxiliary electronics functioned (HVAC, Radio, etc) but engine would not start. Had to get a tow and a new ignition cylinder assembly installed to the tune of $500. Apparently there is a trend of ignition switch issues in Ford Focuses.
