[xxx] were driving in their 2010 Ford Focus and attempted to stop at a sign. The vehicle would not stop and accelerated. The shepherd were in a crisis. The vehicle jumped a railroad track, flipped, and landed in an embankment. [xxx] airbag (passenger) did not deploy. Both are seriously injured and would like to file a claim against Ford Motor Company regarding the defects. When traveling in reverse at a very slow speed (between 1 & 4 mph) the car continues to travel for about a second or two while depressing the brake. This has happened intermittently since the car was purchased new from the dealer. It is more likely to happen when the car has been sitting and/or when it is cold outside, but can happen other times. It is fairly infrequent. I have had a Ford dealership check it, but nothing was ever found. It continues to happen from time to time and happened recently. My concern is that this usually occurs in a parking lot when backing out of a space. If a person or car comes behind me while I am reversing, the brakes may not immediately work when I try to stop suddenly.

My son was driving in the car pool lane when the car came to an abrupt stand still. It turns out the compressor failed and threw its parts all over the engine compartment damaging parts of the engine. When the engine failed, he lost braking and steering abilities. Compressors do not last forever. However, when a compressor quits working that should be the extent of the failure. This compressor failed and basically came apart. The car not working in the middle of a car pool lane put my son and his wife in danger as there was no where to get out and no way to move the car.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated what while driving 25 mph, and applying the brakes, the vehicle began to shake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection but they were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer wa notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000. Updated 01/23/14 the consumer stated along with the brakes squeaking, she had to put the vehicle in park, when coming to a stop. The consumer was informed the problem was in the engine. Update 01/24/14

This vehicle is part of the national fleet owned by the us postal service. The driver was trying to come to a complete stop at an intersection. The engine began revving as the driver was applying the brakes. The additional acceleration made it impossible to stop causing the Focus to collide into the rear of the vehicle stopped ahead. The Focus engaged the stopped vehicle once, pushed it ahead, then engaged it a second time. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership where nothing was found to be wrong. This incident is consistent with past complaints filed with NHTSA for same model year Ford Focus vehicles.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Focus. The contact stated that coolant was emitted through the air conditioning duct and leaked inside the vehicle. The failure caused electrical problems in the vehicle. A representative was sent by the manufacturer to install a coolant fan motor on the vehicle. The contact stated that after the installation, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified who offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 28,000...updated 09-26-12 the consumer stated when coolant came out of the airducts it got on the consumer's face. When the consumer applied the brakes the vehicle went in reverse. The brakes were applied again, the consumer hit the steering wheel and the seat belt unbuckled. The coolant that came out of the airducts also reached the interior floor and behind the console. Other issues with vehicle are the tires that have always looked worn, when the brakes were applied the vehicle would accelerate, rpms would increase and engine revs, toxic and burning wire odors, excessive heat from the engine, metal grinding sounds from under the hood, vibrating and rough riding, the trunk opens on its own, compressing sound while air condition is running, windows were icing on the exterior of driver and passenger windows, and rust on the ignition.
