This is the second time I have had a failure with the transmission. Ford does not seem to have a solution for the CVT transmission problem. Will not purchase another Ford product.

Focus SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,000 miles

Driving home. Car slammed into neutral. Looked down and the dashboard was lit up with many lights, including "Uphill assist is unavailable." Rolled to a stop. Had to be pushed. Took it to Carmax. Carmax couldn't fix a transmission. They towed the car to Fritz Ford. Had to get a new Transmission control module. You're right... pain in the ass. It's a 2013 for God's sake.

Focus SE 3.2L

Now mind you I have taken my car in for regular check ups and oil changes every 3000 to 4000 miles. There was a noise that came up this one time after I got an oil change about 5 months back, and went right back to the Ford dealer. They took it for a drive, looked at the car and said there was nothing they could find. I drove it for a couple weeks and the noise was still there and then it began to hesitate when I would accelerate. Once again I took it back and advised them of the hesitation and the the noise was still there and getting worse. Again they took it for a drive and I even drove with the service person in the car and when I am telling them when the noise is happening "I don't hear anything unusual".

So one point they gave me another Focus to drive with them in the car with me and I told them I could hear the noise just not as loud. (they thought I was crazy) So I continue to drive the my car thinking OK I must need a tune up and when I can get the money together I will get it done. When I originally bought the car they advised me of the "flex-fuel" requirements, I will need to alternate ethanol gas with regular gas.

Times are hard and when the regular gas prices went over $4.00 dollars I could not always afford alternating every few tank fulls. SO with the I thought well maybe I need to have my fuel injectors looked at.(made sense to me) So today on my way to work I was driving along about 65 mph when all of a sudden I seen my RPM's go flying and headed to the red! I immediately backed off the gas and then press down on the gas pedal again, only to find I have no transmission response. I coast into a parking lot and put it in park. I tired reverse and YEA I have reverse. I went to N then went down into Drive. !!!!Yea!!! It is working.

So I return to the highway and continue driving. I realized as I was driving that when I accelerated fast I would get no response from the transmission. I get to work call the Ford dealer and while I was explaining this the service person he asked if I owned a 2013 Ford Focus. (I had not stated what the make and model of the car was yet) Anthony advised me there was a recall on them for the transmission. GREAT!!!! I never was advised of this in the mail or even an email. He reassured me that they had not had anyone break down on the road and they were not able to get me an appointment until OCT 9, 2015. That's 15 days away but what could I do at this point.

I went to drive home from work and what normally takes me 55 mins took me almost 2.5 hours. I would have to stop put it in park, then R, then D. I get into town and I hit every red light. Every intersection I would had to put it in Park, R, D and go about 5 to 9 mph and I finally make in into the Ford Dealer. I get there and they tell me there is nothing they can do for me at this time. I advised them I cannot continue to drive it or I will be "F"ound "O"n "R"oad "D"ead. (I don't think they appreciated my sick sense of humor) I questioned them about putting me in a rental being this is a recall issue and of course they can not foot the bill. They will give me a discount. What a discount.........$54 a day. So fine I will just gimp my way to the house and ride my Harley till they can fix it. I go to leave and I got almost to the exit and it totally died on my. Nothing no reverse no nothing. I coast backwards as far as I could and went back went back in and had to rent from them for the moment.

I come home and researched this "recall" from 8-11-2014. I had not moved during this time so there is no reason I would not have gotten a recall notice. While I am researching I am reading if I didn't get a recall then my car probably did not fit into the recall. GREAT! With the luck I am having they will tell me it is going to be my financial responsibility being I drive so many miles for work and am at approx 75000 miles.

From what I am reading it can run into the $1000's to replace and fix what needs to be done. I will keep you updated on what I find out. Right now if they won't foot the bill on this I will be getting a lawyer and calling the Ford Corp myself until I get someone to listen to me.

Focus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110 miles

I am hesitant to drive the car anywhere other than to work - stop at the store on the way home ... can't go ANYWHERE!!! The transmission grinds and jerks and shudders with ANY upward slope and has since we got the car. Repeated visits to the dealership has gotten virtually NOTHING DONE ... they upgrade the software module ... that had no effect ... and it took them MONTHS to get that done (at least 8 months before that happened) ...even with calling and going into the office every week or two. Dealership says they have to get authorization from Ford to do anything more.... so we have a new car, 14 months old, and it just hit 10K miles yesterday. A good chunk of the mileage is from driving to-from the dealership trying to get resolution (work is 10 miles away).

Can't even put in a lemon law complaint ... since the dealership has to try at least three times to fix the problem ... they have ONLY worked on the car ONCE!!! Ford hasn't been able to come up with any suggestions. What a waste of money to buy a 2013 Ford Focus!

Focus SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,500 miles

Car was standing still (from a stop light giving green light left turn) and accelerated when I hear the typical grinding then a loud pop. The gears completely disengaged and momentum from initial acceleration was the only thing keeping car moving forward. Car behind me almost rear-ended me but swerved around to avoid collision. Not enough momentum to go up the slight hill and car began rolling backward. Had to put on emergency brake to keep car still.
