Right now, vehicle is not drivable due to Transmission module (TCM) issues. It’s covered by Extended Warranty (see Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02), and waiting at dealer’s service for repair (parts) more than month, but neither dealer, not official Ford Motor representative can even provide me ETA when parts would be available. According to dealer, I can wait more than 6+ months for it.

And I have no confidence about transmission after repair, and when it will break next time. I'd like Ford Motor buy back my car.

We paid $3200 to have some transmission/clutch work done on a vehicle that was 99 miles over the warranty miles for a problem that was known by Ford but no recalls made. Two weeks after getting the car back, the Transmission Control Modual went out. The car has been in the shop for 6 months because the part is back ordered. Waiting 6 months for a part that Ford knew was bad is very irritating. If it weren't for a family member working from home and able to loan their car out, not sure how I would have made it to work.

Ford should offer rental cars to anyone that had to wait more than one month for their vehicle to be fixed. I called the parts guy where the car is sitting and he stated that they called Ford directly and told that Ford is working directly with the manufacturer. In my opinion, not directly enough.

I bought this car used in July 2016, it was 2 years old from Mahwah (NJ) Ford. After I bought it, occasionally would have glitches in shifting up/down, with jerking, like couldn't find the right gear. In late June 2021, the shifting glitches got much worse, 5-15 second delays in moving when put into drive, and sometimes will feel like in neutral. Went to local Ford dealer (Quality - Rutherford, NJ) and gave them info on problem with transmission. I was given an appointment of over 3 weeks away (July 21, 2021). Why the delay? The service manager said he 'had over 500 cars and only 2 mechanics'.

Diagnostics was a bad Transmission Control Module. Replacement would be covered by the lawsuit extended warranty (I just made it by days). Problem is that the Module part is totally unobtainable. There is no idea when the part will ever be available - it could be months, or into next year. Apparently an independent transmission shop, who I asked if could put in a non-Ford rebuilt unit (said won't do it as reprogramming difficult, can't do it and won't trust non-Ford part), said there's a backlog of over 37,000 orders for this part. It is possible this is the pandemic's affect on computer chips, part production are factors along with extraordinary demand for the part, but I wonder if Ford is just trying to dodge for as long as possible to do the fixes.

The shifting, not engaging from park into gear, kept happening, and I still had and have to use the car as there's no offer of a loaner and car rentals are prohibitively expensive. I am considering getting rid of the car but prices are stupidly high, dealerships are running total scams to extort max profits, and the transmission is bad, killing trade-in value. I may have to take the hit from buying a less desirable but safer car before have a breakdown when I need a reliable car or get killed trying to use my Focus any further. I wish Ford would pay me for the huge depreciation hit I will take but that won't happen. Sadly this has been the only real problem with the car for the time I had it and I likely will not buy a Ford again.

Ford has had a few recalls dealing with this transmission and it sucks that they don't stand by their product. 14M02 - TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE does not cover the rest of the transmission like it should. My TCM failed and was replaced but the clutch and actuators should have been replaced also to make it like new again. Now I am back at the shop a little over a year later and they say my clutch and actuators need replacement.

Really disappointed in Ford's customer service. I have been a Ford guy for my whole life and after this I will not be buying a Ford again.

FORD YOU NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUES, THAN WHAT? YOU HAVE COSTED US WITH A BAD TRANNY IN THESE CARS, YOU NEED TO GIVE US THE 60% WE LOST ON TRADE IN VALUE. IF YOU CAN NOT BUILD A TRANNY THAT WORKS THAN GO TO GM AND ASK THEM TO MAKE YOU YOUR TRANS AXLES ASSY. BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOUR DOING.

YOU HAVE FROM GAS TANKS BLOWING UP TO CARS THAT HAD FIRES, THAT BURNED DOWN PEOPLE'S HOMES. YOUR F150 WAS FIRE BUG, YOUR MUSTANG FROM 1964 1/2 GAS TANKS WOULD BLOW UP, THAN YOU HAD THE PINTO THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH GAS TANK, AND THAN THE CROWN VIC AND THE GRAND MERQ WAS IN THAT DEAL WITH GAS TANKS BLOWING UP, AND NOW YOUR TRANY. NOW YOU POLICE EXPLORERS HAS DEADLY GAS GETTING INSIDE THAT TRUCK CAUSING PEOPLE TO GET HURT.

While driving down the freeway at 70 mph on my way to work, the check engine light comes on, and then I get a warning that says "Transmission Fault, Service Now." I'm able to fight my way over to the shoulder and get off on the next exit. I call the dealer, they tell me to call Ford Roadside Assistance. Call them, they send a tow truck, which will take 2 hours to get to me. I wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, for 3 hours and no tow truck ever shows up, by this time it's 8:15 at night and all the dealerships are closed, so I have no way of getting a loaner or getting to work, so I say screw it and drive the few miles to work, at 20 mph, in first gear because now the transmission won't shift gears.

Make another appointment with Roadside Assistance to get the car picked up between 6 and 6:30 AM when I get off work, tow truck arrives at 7:30. Get to the dealer that Ford said I could take it to, and then Ford calls and said the tow truck has to turn around and take it to a different dealer or else I have to pay $127 for towing, After going back and forth with Ford R.A. and the towing company, Ford finally agrees to let them take it to the dealership I wanted.

They changed out the TCM, which I have asked them about every time I've taken it in for maintenance and have been told don't worry about it. Ford knows the TCM's are bad, but won't fix them until they actually go out. It ran really rough and jerked real bad for about a week, but it's starting to get back to normal now. I got a postcard in the mail a few days before it happened about a class action lawsuit being filed against Ford for the transmission problems in the Focus.

I bought this car new in Sept. 2014 and it started having problems five months later. The dealer tells me that there is not a recall and there is not a fix. The 2016 Focus has the same transmission in it and will have the same problem. The big problem I have with Ford is they knew that they have had these issues with this transmission in these cars and they are still selling them anyway. This is my fourth new Ford and it will be the last Ford I will buy because they will not recall it and fix the problem.

I give credit where credit is due. The car drives great and gets great gas mileage. The best way to make sure that nobody else buy these cars is social media. Twitter, Facebook, etc. Spread the word. The transmissions in these cars are Junk!

Update from Jun 1, 2016: i emailed ford.com and told them problem that i was having. i got an email from them the next day and told me that the regional csr would contact me which she did the next day. they had my car for 4 weeks and they gave me a loaner car but i had to request it. my car seems to be fixed and does a lot better but it is a CVT transmission that i cannot stand. ford is not the only one that puts cvt's in their cars. they also did a 4 wheel alignment on my car at no charge. the customer service was good but i will never like any brands CVT transmission.

Update from Oct 10, 2017: I had my transmission worked on when the car was 1-1/2 years old. i had it worked on again when it was 3 years old. they told me i would notice a difference because ford reengineered the parts. i have had the car now for 2 months and it seems fine. if it remains the same i will keep the car for at least another 2 years. maybe longer. the engineer that designed the transmission without testing it first should be fired!

I've had the car for 2 years and have complained about it since I took possession. I've been given excuses like, "You aren't used to a 4 cyl. It's just a Ford quirk.. ect." When I finally got them to look at it in JUNE 2015, I was told they had to order the parts and that they wouldn't come in until September. That the parts were back ordered because the problem as so common.

Well it's September and I was told they are still servicing cars with this problem from back in May that are ahead of me. That was just for my tech. He said that he didn't know how many the others had on their lists. He also told me that they spread out these repairs to to the volume. I still owe $18,000 on this vehicle and drive 2 to 2.5 hours daily for work. I CAN NOT be without a dependable car and the best offer I've gotten as a trade in is $11,000.

My mom leased a 2014 from her local Ford dealer in Wellington Fla. She is now 85 the sales man is probably 75. You don't lease or sell a car to a senior citizen where you know could be a problem. I went back to the dealer Al Packa Ford. They told me what they tell everyone else.

It's a new type of transmission . The usually bla bla bla. She trusted the salesman.

Al Packa Ford is a small dealership and they really work very slow. The service manager told me to file a lemon law suite if I was not satisfied. They also advised me we should not have bought leased the vehicle. Contacted Ford got the run around. Went to Al Packa East and the car is in the shop.

All I can say is Ford will not buy these cars back. Keep on there back keep calling and don't stop. I will never buy or lease a Ford vehicle ever again. FORD MOTOR COMPANY YOU SUCK. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SENIOR CITIZENS THAT CAN'T FIGHT BACK. WELL I'M GOING TO FIGHT BACK UNTIL WE GET OUR MONEY BACK . WITH IN THE LEGAL PROCESS AND ALL OF YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME

FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS TO PAY AT LEAST TRY TO GET THEIR ATTENTION.

I just bought this car on 7/18 and the next day was when I realized there was an issue. Went back to my salesman and he told me to call Ford service on Monday. So on Monday I call them and tell them my issue the give me an appointment for September for a transmission service. Well aren't you even going to look at my car and see if it's the transmission? No they said. Well I wasn't going to wait until September for them to tell me that oh, that's not what is wrong. NOBODY at this point from the salesman to Ford service tells me that there is an issue with the transmission. So I go to the Ricart Ford Service and was told 2 different times that they don't have someone to look at it. The 2nd time I wasn't taking no for an answer. It took a while and going through several people but I did get someone to look at my car. And it is the automatic clutch system. Still at this point nobody has said anything about a recall. I had to research it online. I feel that Ricart dealership are a scam. They sale me a car that has issues and don't tell me just puts if off on the Ford service to fix it.

2014 Ford Focus SE 2.0 engine 22K miles

Purchased new Jan,2014

From the first day the xssm mad noises, shifted in and out before going into gear. Its my first new car so I didn't know how to handle the problem. Its been to the dealer for the recall service. A firmware update stopped the car from rolling down on hills. The xssm still makes odd noises from time to time which the dealer says is normal.

Most of the time when pulling off from a traffic light the cars goes in and out of gear multiple times before stabilzling and of course engine revs up. Almost had two wrecks. So I have to make sure the intersection is clear before making a turn etc. My son who has a 2007 KIA does not like to drive this car. There are other problems but the xssm is the worst. The dealer said the recall is done in three stages.1.firmware update, 2. not sure, 3. replace parts in the xssm.I left the car at the dealer yesterday with a list of problems and the 20K maint. I was again told the parts (seals?) for the xssm recall were on back order. They called and said their best tech had worked on it car was fixed. He said the transmission noises were normal. I don't know what to do. Alabama has a 12K mile lemon law. This car was purchase to last into retirement. Any ideas?

There is a solution to the Focus transmission problem!! After the dealer tried the TSB fix to the problem, which made no improvement, I opened a case with Ford Motor Company. Approach them in a positive way, discussing how you love the car, which I do, except for this problem. In my case, they authorized rebuilding the transmission with the latest parts which were: Clutch Assembly BV6Z 7B546 F and Seal Assembly EV6Z 7052 A. PROBLEM SOLVED!! the car now runs as it should and still gets great gas mileage!!

The following is a proposed letter to be sent to the Ford service in Columbus, Ohio regarding a well know transmission issue with the 2014 Focus. Actually you will find the issue is not specific to 2014 or the Focus but a specific transmission. Have a look at this investigation and a quick search will find you many more reports and complainants.

Investigation finds hundreds of complaints about Ford transmissions Read more: http://www.wtae.com/news/local/investigations/investigation-finds-hundreds-of-complaints-about-ford-transmissions/-/12023024/24333878/-/3ailpz/-/index.html#ixzz3Ch4Z5eN4

http://www.wtae.com/investigations/investigation-finds-hundreds-of-complaints-about-ford-transmissions/24333878

My letter to the Dealer will be as follows.

The first time the car was kept for 2 weeks, when it was returned to me there was nasty rumbling sound / vibration, which was later explained as a failure to reassemble the air filtration system properly. Really, if these techs can't reassemble the air filter assembly and damage the rear main oil seal my confidence has not gone anywhere but down. This however, has more to do with the dealer than the transmission issue but, I thought it should be mentioned here.

I feel like I am getting a big run around here. This transmission issue is very well known by ford and your service people. The history of NOT getting these transmission problems resolved is not my problem or specific to my 2014 Focus. This is a well-documented problem and Ford is aware of this.

I am getting really tired of explaining the symptoms to the service writers and having them tell me this is normal operation. Very curious that one would tell me there is a serious issue and another would tell me this is normal operation. First, I am either insulted because they think I’m naïve enough to buy this ridiculous story with tens or, hundreds of thousands of other drivers saying the same thing about this transmission. Second, I absolutely cannot believe that the dealer sales and service people would try to hide this well-known issue from me. When I bought this car from dealer the sales representative never mentioned there were known issues with this car. I never saw the document about any expected operation until after I started experiencing serious issues. Had I been shown this document, I would not have purchased this new Focus.

At 5k when I reported this to the service writer as an engine issue he told me “there is a serious problem with those transmissions” and the issue was NOT the engine. Then Craig told me the 2 week repair was due to all the transmission repairs stacked up. The dealer was aware of this problem and I never heard a word about it.

To further explain how well known this issue was I did a quick Google search and without any discretion I just grabbed the first handful of dozens of pages for 2014 Focus transmission problems.

Transmission Lags, Shift Roughly http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2013/transmission/transmission_lags_shift_roughly.shtml

My focus does have most of these same issues (even after the 2 week repair) pointed out in hundreds of complaints as well as several not listed. In addition, the document provided after my last repair, where I was told there was nothing wrong with the transmission, does not list several of my symptoms. There are several additional symptoms with my 2014 focus.

As I am sure you are aware I have signed an agreement with counsel who has already contacted Ford regarding my 2014 Focus. The car has been getting worse since I picked it up from the last repair visit on 8/14/14. Several people have been in the car with me and each has asked what the xxxx is that clunk, pop, crack and what a dog it is. The transmission fix so far has only reduced the power and caused the car to bog down trying to downshift. Every time I drive it there are new surprises including jumping in reverse. I have a list of the symptoms that I will provide but, as far as I am concerned this has already gone too far and I have no desire to keep this car. My hope is that Ford steps up and talks responsibility for this. I will feel very obligated to post everywhere I can if this issue goes on any longer.

From what I understand unwillingness to service this car would be considered a breach of the warranty and arguing the car does not have a problem would be ridiculous at this point. You’re not telling me there is not a problems; you are telling, at least thousands, there is not a problem.

* Don't buy a Ford Focus and you may want to research some of the other recalls and issues with Ford before buying. * I'll be headed to the Toyota Dealer soon. Now worries they are made in the US too.

Just so you know I have 2 college degrees am a member of a national honor society and work for a world wide software provider so I'm not just some crabbing person who just doesn't understand technology.

I will report back if the issue is not resolved satisfactorily very soon.

In case I missed removing any of the Dealer name instances I will tell you they are on the north west outer part of the city and they have lied and kept service records from me proving they made several major mistakes during service. The dealer name will be reported in my next post if needed.
