Soft brake peddle after hitting bump in highway. Peddle to floor and had to pump hard to get the car to stop. Finally stopped in the intersection. Has occurred on 4 occasions over a 2 year period. Braking finally improves after a short period of time. Was in a 45 mph speed zone near home on 3 of the occurrences.

ABS activates during braking over rough surfaces causing brake pedal to feel spongy and soft afterwards. Diminished brake performance after activation of ABS causing increased stopping distance. Bleeding of lines and ABS unit seems to improve brake performance slightly, but never to 100% I am an automotive technician with over 15yrs experience, and this is my personal vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since I purchased this vehicle in 2011.

Had to press my brake pedal all the way to the floor to get the car to stop. Took car in to dealer on 12-21-1016 and was told the brakes were now properly working. The brake problem started with I went over a speed bump on my street about 2 weeks ago. The car was in motion. I now feel unsafe driving this car.

While braking over a slippery surface, the ABS activated. After that, when applying the brakes, the brake pedal would go way down with reduced and delayed braking action. Eventually the brakes returned to normal actuation but the process has repeated, causing delayed and reduced braking, taking the driver by surprise. This is a definite safety concern.

When driving over a bump in the road or rough surface or something that would cause the ABS braking system to activate, the brakes would go soft and need to be pressed very hard in order to make the car stop. This increases the time it takes for the car to brake making it hard to stop especially in rush hour traffic. It has happened on 3 occasions already.

The brakes will randomly get spongy and go to the floor when applied in an emergency situation. Also the brakes will feel spongy and go to the floor when applied and the vehicle is traveling over bumps in the road. Neither my husband or myself have not had an accident in this vehicle but have had to exit the roadway to avoid rear ending other vehicles. Also the vehicle has traveled into intersections prior to stopping when attempting to stop while traveling over bumps. This is extremely dangerous and scary and as a result we can't allow our children to drive this vehicle. We previously had a 2007 Ford Fusion in which my daughter rear ended another car in traffic when she applied the brakes and that Ford Fusion was totaled. When the brakes are not having the above problems, it is a great car to drive. These brake issues make me a very uncomfortable driver as we have a lot of bumpy roads in my city. It also makes traveling very difficult as I don't know what type of road surfaces I may encounter. The vehicle has been to the shop about these issues but they never find a problem.

Both my wife and I experienced the brake pedal going soft so that we had to press down further and the brake pedal traveled down further to get to firm resistance. The car would not brake normally but required more pressure to brake the car and took longer to stop. We felt unsafe. It occurred at various speeds, when trying to stop. The problem is intermittent and we do not know when it will occur or why it is happening. This happened when trying to stop for street lights or stop signs and occurred this past month, the beginning of December 2016. It happened when we were traveling straight or on a curve coming to a full stop. It happened on more than one date, several times towards the beginning of December 2016

My brake pedal has gone soft and operates now much closer to the floor of the vehicle following a rather severe application of braking to avoid a collision. (I was traveling through an intersection on a major roadway at 40-45 mph when a vehicle made a left turn in front of me) immediately following the incident, I feared that the vehicle was not going to stop at the next traffic light and so it went for the remainder of the day in October, 2016. The brakes were not right. After several days I noticed that the brakes did feel a little better, however, I am sure having driven this vehicle since purchased new, they are not what they were prior to the hard stop.

When anti-lock braking system is needed, such as on a slippery road, the brake pedal goes to the floor, resulting in a lack of stopping power, resulting in a hazardous situation. When roads are not slippery, brakes work normally.

2009 Ford Fusion brake problems. The brake pedal intermittenly goes down the floor unexepectly. I had to stand on the brake pedal to stop the car. This issue has been reported to murphy Ford, chester pa on 4 occasions. This car has been towed twice to murphy Ford, concerning this issue. Murphy Ford could not duplicate this problem. After the 4th visit, and murphy Ford could not duplicate the problem, I requested that the master cylinder be replace. This car is unsafe and Ford should correct this problem. I am authorizing the nhtsb to review my vehicle service record from murphy Ford concerning this issue.

The dealer changed the rear rotors and brake pads, and brake fluid; however, the same failure recurred several months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,914.

  • 78,000 miles
While recently driving on snow, the brakes seemed to almost malfunction after ABS was activated. I had to press the brakes almost to the floor to brake which delayed my ability to brake almost causing my vehicle to not stop in time. This happened while driving at any speed in slick conditions that would activate the ABS system. Pumping the brakes would help to bring the brake pressure back but would almost instantly go out again the next time I had to brake. This significantly decreases my ability to drive safely.
