problem #2

Probe GT 2.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 155,343 miles

Pretty much the same as the other post listed here - car will turn over but will not start. Only happens on special occasions, like when I'm not at the garage where they just looked at it and or fixed it. It appears to be getting fuel but no spark.

This was happening a few years ago but then I had the engine replaced with a used one from an auto wrecker and the problem disappeared for a year or 2. Previous to the engine swap, I changed the entire distributor, plugs, wires, etc and they were moved over to the new(er) engine.

So what else would affect the distributor preventing it to generate spark at the plugs? I believe there is power going to it. Where does it get impulse from the crankshaft angle to control timing? Is that internal to the distributor or an external sensor?

Any suggestions or comments welcome. If the guy with the previous post sees this, did you get your issue resolved?

Probe 2.5L V6

Same as a problem reported under 1996 ford probe on this site. The car was fine for the first few months I owned it and then seemingly at random it wont start. Come back later and she fires up fine. It's been to 2 auto electricians which tested everything charged me for the privilege and solved nothing. If anyone knows of a solution to this most annoying problem please, please, please respond to this post.
