Ranger LXT 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 176,000 miles

When I put on the brakes and almost come to a stop, the engine accelerates. I have to put it park and push the accelerator to get it to stop accelerating. Very dangerous should my son or daughter or friend borrow the truck. I do not know what Ford has done about this but I will call the dealership tomorrow to find their remedy. As for now I cannot borrow my truck to anyone and hope Ford has a recall or fix for this problem.

Ranger 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

It seems that after driving for a while, the vehicle wants to accelerate whenever I apply the brakes and the transmission is downshifting. I was parking at an IHOP and the engine accelerated. I had to ram the gear lever into Park and cut off the engine to avoid running in to the restaurant.

This has happened on other occasions when stopping at red lights or stop signs. After shifting into neutral and quickly stepping on gas pedal the engine idles down to normal. This was not always the case but recently started after approximately 60,000 miles.

Any ideas?

Ranger 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,636 miles

My 2002 Ranger is in the shop. I was driving slowly in a crowded parking lot looking for a parking place. The SUV in front of me stopped. I stepped on the brake. The Ranger accelerated, tires screaming as the brakes fought the acceleration. I hit the SUV a head of me. The SUV pulled forward and the Ranger continued accelerating and hit it again. I turned off the engine. The Ranger was towed to a body shop for almost $2000 worth of damage. I don't know how much damage the SUV suffered. My extended warranty expired 12/31/2006.

This potential problem should have been identified by Ford and a recall notice sent. As soon as the body work is done I will have the Ranger towed to a Ford dealer, since it is too dangerous to drive it until the problem is fixed. Does anyone know what the fix is?
