problem #15

Taurus 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,500 miles
2000 Ford Taurus with 58, 500 miles. Vehicle was sitting in my garage, engine off. Upon sliding into the drivers seat, I heard a loud bang and the entire car shook. Nothing external evident on inspection. Took to dealer and was informed that both front springs and one rear spring were broken. Dealer replaced both front springs as part of a safety recall, and both rear springs for which I was charged $481. It was just my good luck that the failure occurred in my garage and not on the highway at highway speeds, where the spring could have ruptured a tire.

Taurus 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,250 miles
My wife was leaving work and upon setting in the car hear a load noise, on investigation by a aaa mechanic the front coil spring on the driver's side had broken and punctured the tire. The plastic linkage connecting the anti-sway bar was also broken. If the car had been moving it would have wrecked and possibly rolled. I thought this had been fixed on earlier models of the Taurus, I know there was a recall to put anti-puncture protection from broken springs.

problem #2

For the record: Front end has a severe vibration that is coming from the engine cradle, espec. When light braking is taking affect or when ever your fooit is on the brake pedal. This is my seventh Taurus and have never come accross this before I suspect that it could be strut valve that might be packing. The dealer will only turn the rotor or offer to balance the tires. This is not the problem so I apt to wait. The ssysmtom also feels like you have 80 psi in the front tires. I'm almost positie its strut rebons/preload packing. This will be a big concern to new owers and it is not a isolated case. This could lead to major suspension damame along with improper handling esp. Under high speed braking. The wheel is not able to follow the imperfections of the road surface therefore the car will handle in a violent manner. Ford should investigate this and recall these cars before accedents start occurring.
