  • Automatic transmission
  • 71,000 miles

Transmission started slipping. I would pull out of in front of traffic and it would rev up and jolt to a start then it would be ok. I then went to go up a huge hill and I got 1/2 way up and the rpm's pinned then the car wouldn't go any further. Luckily it happened and I was able to make a right turn so I didn't have to slide down the hill (there was no room on the shoulder). I brought it to my mechanic and he knew exactly what was wrong. I had a blown neutral/ drive accumluator channel plate gasket He has fixed many Tauras' that had that same problem. It mimics the symptoms of a stripped pump drive. He recommended that I DO NOT loose my receipt because he feels there will be some kind of class action lawsuit.

I bought this car in February and was told that car is good at 76000 miles. When dring the car its real comfortable but things start to happen after 1 week. I notice it start to slam and when driving at 60 to 70 miles and star slowing down its jumping and nosiy. I was warnead to say d but I was won over by the saleman. Sad to say they are liars and never ever trust a salesman. Every car is good. . I will all folks here that Ford 2005 transmission is no good. I will never buy another ford again. Please note most people buy ford because of this - Put AF before the word FORD and this is what I can AFFORD . I has a loan and will not fix it because the problem might happen again. I will pay off the loan and move on. May God bless the later Ford Generations - the nowadays one will not do anything for Ford owners. Please note Ford did not take the bail out money from Obama - yet their stocks are up - not because of 2005 FORD TAURUS

Taurus SE 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,000 miles

I have been dealing with faulty transmission for several months now. I try not to drive my Taurus unless necessary these days, as I do not have the money to fix it yet. The car does not have problems driving short distances around town, but when I have to drive across the Twin Span into New Orleans, usually after driving at high speeds of 65+ for about 30 minutes, the tachometer will leap higher, then slowly fall to 0. I will be pressing the gas, but the car will slowly decelerate. The only gears that work are park and neutral. Once I coast to a stop on the shoulder, the car will cough and sputter until I turn it off.

But all I do is wait about 10 seconds, then turn the car on again, and it runs fine! For about 10-15 mins that is. Then we repeat the process all over again. Lately it has been getting worse. When just sitting idle at a red light, the car shakes and coughs a little bit. I'm saving up to get it fixed, but I am really sick of having a car that I purchased only 3 years ago that is so unreliable and dangerous. With so many other people experiencing the same thing, I don't feel like it's my fault as a driver. The fault lies with Ford for making a bad product. I agree will so many others who have commented here, I will never buy Ford again. When I purchase a car, I would like it if the car actually worked.

Taurus 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

Being somewhat retired due to medical problems and being on a VERY limited income, we decided to spend all our savings and buy a 2005 Taurus from my daughter. She had purchased it brand new and it had all of it's regular maintanance. I was driving it in town, at 25 mph and stopped at a four way stop. I turned left and the car revved up but did not go! I was left on the street in traffic, in the rain!

A nice young man stopped and helped push it to a safe location. I had to find a ride to go to Anderson Ford in Bellefontaine, Ohio. We went to the service department and told the desk person of our problem. Sadly, with a nasty smirk on his face... he told us tough luck, no warranty....

Sorry, but not worth $3300. to fix!

Ford, you should be ashamed!!!!! What next? Disposable cars? Might as well be!

Last Ford I ever buy!

Taurus SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,558 miles

I was shocked to say the least at how many people with the same year Taurus (2005) had the same transmission problem as my wife and daughter just experienced while coming

back late on a Saturday night from taking my son home after my daughter's Birthday Party.

The same as I have been reading, my Wife made a left turn, started going when all of a sudden the tranny disengaged and the tachometer needle registered high rpm's then bottomed out and she had no more forward or reverse gears just park & neutral. I thank God

she was on a down grade and was able to pull into a parking lot where they launch boats, and it didn't happen on the steel bridge that goes across the Illinois River.

We bought this Taurus to replace a Buick Century that was getting up in years and had over 250,000 miles on it (AS I LOOK BACK OH WHAT A WONDERFUL CAR) we have only had this piece of cow dung Taurus for a little over a year and 27,000 miles later were getting spanked for a replacement transmission. FORD WTF WHERE YOU THINKING ? You did it to may parents with a 1965 Galaxy 500 (faulty frame),my 1990 ranger (tranny)and now 2005 Taurus (tranny) guess what three strikes and "YOUR OUT". I'll never buy another Ford again, your not a company who stands behind its product you never have and I guess you never will.

I can only say that I hope someday there is a Class Action Lawsuit for all the people who had to shell out their hard earned dollars on these transmissions or for the one fella I read about that lost his life trying to push your product off to the side of a highway, They say buy AMERICAN, but its truly hard with this type of cheap material and workmanship...

Very discouraged- My 2005 Ford Taurus SE V6 needed a new transmission after 58,848 miles. Purchased it new, serviced it regularly at the dealer- did all the timely maintenance required-and the transmission just died. I have been a ford man for 25 years -- but no more. Taurus SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,000 miles

I bought this Taurus in 2007 with only 18000 miles on it. Got a good deal on it and needed something. Fortunately, when I bought it, I bought the extended warranty. At 32000 miles the timing chain broke while my brother was driving it. After this repair was complete I think the dealer damaged the A/C compressor as it died about a week after getting it back from the timing chain repair. All of this was fixed under my extended warranty and was over $4000 for the repairs. Well since these repairs the car has been reliable with no problems until today. I was driving to work and noticed that the engine was revving up, but there wasn't much movement forward. At the first stop light the car did not move when I hit the gas at first then lurched forward. Fortunately, I was near a parking lot and immediately pulled in and tried all gears and found that it would no longer move at all. So I think now the tranny must be dead. I had it towed and am waiting on a diagnosis. After checking this site for this car and the symptoms, I am sure that it will need to be replaced. Will update the results later...

Update from Feb 1, 2012: After the mechanic had a look at the car, it turned out to be some switch that was damaged and had to be replaced. Of course the fluid had also run out of the transmission and this is why it would not move. I have driven it now for a few hundred miles and it seems to be fine. Have to drive the thing about 800 miles to get home in the next few weeks so we will see.

Taurus SEL 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,134 miles

This is a failing transmission. Not a total failure at the moment. I drove to a friend's house about 90 minutes outside of Boston. On our way back into Boston the next day, in some minor snow and temperatures in the mid-20's I noticed the transmissions jerking slightly as it tried to up shift (I'm guessing from 3rd to 4th as it was occurring only at speeds above 45 mph or so.

I was actually lucky for the inclement weather because the average speed on the highway was only around 45 so I didn't have to force the car into fourth gear. I got the car back to my neighborhood and parked it.

Haven't yet had a chance to take the car to a mechanic, but I'm not optimistic about it being something minor. To spend $2700 on this issue now seems a bit silly because the car is only worth around $3000. I've never liked the way this transmission behaved. Now I'm really not a fan. After reading everyone else's problems, I can believe Ford won't do anything to help up. Very disappointed right now.

Taurus SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I didn't realize how much of a problem this was until today. I will be adding a second complaint in a little while as after putting a rebuilt transmission in the car at 60,000 miles we will be putting a second in at 110,000 miles. Something must be done about this. If so many people are having the same problem!!

I noticed an issue with the tranmission when I first bought the car, took it back to have it looked at they told me there was nothing wrong. I told them when the I was in traffice the tranmission shiffted hard between 1st and second gear. Needless to say they did nothing. Then at around 60,000 the tranmission went out all together left me stranded on a highway. Cost to fix would have been 3000 if we had not purchased the extended warranty.

I was driving to work one morning, which is about 40 miles away from my home. I had no problems or any indication something was wrong with my transmission. I turned into the driveway at work and it just died. Transmission was completely gone. I had to have it towed to the dealer and they told me he new what the problem was and it would have to be rebuilt or replaced. This is a bunch of crap.

So many Taurus' are having this problem. Why doesn't Ford recall them?
