Car was 2 years when we purchased it. Was a nice looking vehicle. Glad I didn't buy it new and make payments til it was mine. This would have happened right about the time it was paid off. Seems a shame that this problem with the aluminum body panel has been a problem for so long. The body shop was very familiar with the issue. I didn't even know the hood was aluminum until they told me. It's also a shame that the only good fix is to replace the panel. Ridiculous expense, since it is due mainly to quality control in the manufacturing process.
I've had a number of Ford vehicles over the years, and have, for the most part, been satisfied with the product. But this body problem reminds me of vehicles I had in the '70s, that rusted out before they should have. Until this issue is addressed properly, I think I will try to avoid vehicles with aluminum body parts.

Took car to dealer to see if Ford would reimburse me for having the "hood" painted. They told me they would look into it but pretty sure the answer would be no. The dealer never notified me. I still do not have the hood painted but the # of blisters continues to increase -- none have peeled YET.
Took car to body shop and was given an estimate of about $500 to repaint it.
Ford is responsible for the inferior paint job in the first place and ought to be recalling these cars. I have seen numerous Taurus X on the road with the identical problem.

Paint bubbling with corrosion underneath at front edge of hood. Typical of Taurus X.

Love the car but the paint on the hood is peeling off all along the front edge of the car. There is no rust showing because the hood is oxidizing. This has brought down the value of my car significantly. It's the first thing you notice when you see the car.

The blistering / bubbling paint on the front edge of the 2008 Taurus X hood has reached eight separate spot with several getting quite large. It destroys the appearance of the car, looks like hell. No one seems to have a fix. If a body shop refinishes it, will the new paint blister again. Ford's in denial.
I have seen this on a number of Taurus X's listed on Cars,com and Explorers. I have also seen it in person on Taurus and Explorers. This is a significant problem Ford is dodging. I had a 2006 Freestyle, same car different name, that at nine years had no paint problems.
When I started on this site I saw repeated references to rusting aluminum. Aluminum does not rust!

I have owned Fords since 1966, and lived through the rusty Ford years in the 70's. Ford cleaned up their act after that and have been producing quality vehicles for a lot of years now. This paint peeling problem on the aluminum hoods needs to be addressed, especially if they want to avoid similar problems with the new F 150. I think Ford should avoid the bad press, own up to the fact that there was a problem with paint adhering to their aluminum hoods and fix them under warranty.

Incredibly annoying. The car looks terrible. Nearly every Taurus X that we see has the same problem. We spend way too much money on cars to have this type of problem. Ford should fix it!

In the Ford Taurus X (2008 and 2009) years, in ALL of these vehicles, the paint will blister and separate from the hood, primarily along the front edge.
Ford IS aware of this problem and apparently it has to do with not using the correct primer for the aluminum hood. However, and while Ford is aware of the problem, and while it happens to ALL the cars produced (I have not seen a single one that it has not occurred on), Ford is not willing to do anything to remedy the problems or assist its customers.
The repair for this KNOWN issue, including labor, costs over $1000.

The paint on the aluminum hood is peeling and blistering. I have had it looked at and it seems like the hood is actually going to need to be replaced at some point. It is not rust it is breaking down.

The paint on my Ford Taurus X 08 is ugllllyyyyyyyy! It’s all unevenly peeling too. Ford Taurus X seems to have hella issues that could have been avoided with a little more give a f*** on their part . It also seems like my Taurus X has alllllllll the issues listed on the forum. So why hasn’t any of them been addressed or the TBS / recalls handled. Why am I dealing with it close to 20 years later!!!?!
