problem #3

Thunderbird Convertible 3.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,800 miles

VEHICLE WENT INTO AN INVOLUNTARY HIGH SPEED RUN WHEN I SELECTED SPEED CONTROL AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ON ROUTE I 95. IT WOULD NOT DISCONNECT AND AT 85MPH I HIT THE BRAKES AND BURNED THEM TO THE POINT OF SEVERELY SMOKING THEM . THE RIMS WERE SO HOT THAT THEY CAUSED A BURN WHEN I TOUCHED THEM. ( NOT A SMART THING TO DO) IT DID IT AGAIN ABOUT A MONTH LATER BUT I WAS ABLE TO DISCONNECT VIA USE OF THE BRAKES. SUBSEQUENTLY I'VE TRIED TO USE CRUISE CONTROL WITH MIXED RESULTS, SOMETIMES IT WILL ONLY ENGAGE WHEN I SELECT THE NEGATIVE SELECT SWITCH, SOMETIMES ONLY WHEN I SELECT RES. IT WILL STILL TRY TO RUN AWAY, BUT I CAN DISCONNECT. VERY SELDOM TRY TO USE IT NOW, ON MY INITIAL CALL TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE AN INTENSIVE ANALYSIS AND A TIME. MONEY - WHY??? ISN'T THIS SEVERE ENOUGH FOR THEM TO SAY WE'LL FIX IT FOR FREE. NOW THAT'S HUMOROUS

Thunderbird V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I can go on and on with all the problems with this piece of handsome junk. How about the cruise control, stereo and horn. All associated with the steering wheel, again, a common problem. They do what they want when they want. This is not a car for a working stiff! It will drain your pocket book and come back for more, that was probably the idea from the start. I'll update you all on the rest of the common problems later.

(reported on)

Thunderbird V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,000 miles

To begin with you could turn on the cruise and press cancel or off (which ever is opposite the on switch) and it would set the cruise. Now it will not work at all.
