Transit Connect LTX 2.5L 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,100 miles

We have had this unit on the property for 3 weeks, and the van has 1100 miles on it when it set off the Mil light. I have been smelling gas real strong when it gets over 75 degrees. This is the code for a "small leak" showing in the evap system. It has set a permanent code for this problem.

I have an Actron unit to read and clear codes, we do our own work as the dealer or anybody else keeping the work truck off the road is costing me clients and cash.

The Easy Fill does not seal at all. When the tank out-gasses, it blows vapors all over. It will be a fire hazard if this is not fixed.

Went back to the dealer, and they said it MY PROBLEM as I wasn't fueling the van right, and the flap wasn't sealing. Nope, the flap does come all the way back to "close off" the hole. It just does not have enough force to completely seal the unit. IN addition, this unit does not have the "lock" like the originals do. That was changed out a few years ago according to my research, and now anything which goes into the hole will open it.

This is a dangerous situation, and any open flame, sparks on a job site, or just some goof with a smoke too close when this thing blows out could set off the vapor, causing a major fire.

When I went over to buy the unit, I had mentioned the "Easy Fill", and thought it was a problem just awaiting to happen. The dealer assured me it was just fine, and would work as Ford designed it. It is causing problems - as of now the unit is parked, I am afraid to drive it for fear of becoming a fireball on the job.. I made a major mistake buying this unit, and am now looking for something to replace it. It is that bad.
