About a year ago the ABS and Brake lights came on. I verified that my emergency brake was not engaged and then asked my husband about it. He looked into it a bit - we can't seem to find an issue. So we Goggled and discovered its probably a sensor going out.

The lights turn off when you turn off the engine. They may or may not come on when you start the car. They seem to come on usually when I go over a bump. Sometimes I see the lights daily. Other times I go a month with no lights. It's random... I doubt there really is an issue with my ABS but I'm glad I don't live where it snows!

Windstar LX 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 172,000 miles

My traction & ABS lights have been on for a while now. They come on and off as they please depending on the weather {rain makes them come on more often}. I haven't figured out the reason yet but have heard that it could be a few things: fuse needs to be changed, sensors behind wheels need changing, or it could be part of the 2009 recall that they found 'nothing wrong' but has now shown up.

Windstar SE 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

The brake and abs light coming on mostly during hot days is a known issue with the Windstar. You can google this issue and find other sites that report this issue. Looks like there are places on ebay that you can send the module to get repaired and it looks like it is about $50. The issue I have is how to get the compute removed. I tried it myself and I could not get the other ABS components out to get to the computer. I will eventually need to fix this if it is caught during my vehicle inspection here in TX.

Windstar LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Ford knows about this problem its the ABS Module that is under the drivers seat next to the tire wall which gets extremely hot. The lights come on in the summer time because that is when it heats up, the module looks like a part of your personal computer and the module melts thus causing the light to come on. There are numerous complaints on this module and its in several vehicles not just the windstar.

Windstar 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

The abs light and the brake light are on almost all the time. We bought this used last year as a repo and wonder if that's why the thing was let go. My wife drives it and says there is a problem .she has read lots of things on line and even printed me some off. Since I have always been a ford man,I need help.
