My 2002 Ford Windstar ABS and trac active warning light currently on. No ABS or traction control. Ford dealer says it is the ABS control unit. Understand this is a common problem with these vehicles.

I have a 2002 Ford Windstar van. My ABS light and brake light stay on all the time. I have replaced the brake pressure deactivation switch once. It seemed to cure the problem for about a month, then the lights came back on. I have read of other people with similar problems that have lead to a fire. I have talked to the local dealer, king's Ford, and their service people tell me this is a very common problem. Is there a recall on this? if not there needs to be.

2002 Ford Windstar brake warning light on dashboard and ABS warning lights illuminate after car has warmed up. Mechanics have checked brakes themselves and found no mechanical reason for these lights. Also have evidence of leak in area of electric switch related to this system.

2002 Ford Windstar ABS light & brake light go on & off all the time, 4 different mechanics say brakes are all working correctly and have all been replaced new. Ford dealership westlake, Ohio has informed me after 1 hour $100, that they get other codes and I will have to pay hourly until they find the problems.

I own a 2002 Ford Windstar sel. Recently had two messages of low brake fluid. ABS brake warning lights also come on and off on instrument panel. Cruise control stops working from time to time. Then on Aug 4, the entire instrument panel went haywire, and air conditioner stopped cooling. Having it looked at tomorrow, but this sounds like leaking brake fluid from bad switch has caused electrical meltdown. No fire - yet.

We own a 2002 Ford Windstar. We have had the ABS light and brake light come on sporadically for the last year and a half. We have had the brakes checked on the car since this has occurred and there has been no cause found for the lights to keep coming on.

Recently purchased 2002 Ford Windstar mini van. Upon research found that the prevalent problems with this model could result in brake damage, fire, and loss of vehicle. Took vehicle in for brake diagnostic test and found that it has the same issue as many others of this model. Quoted $2100 repairs. Why is Ford not recalling these vans?

I have a 2002 Ford Windstar van, while driving, the van the ABS light, traction control light and the emergency brake light all come on at the same time. They remain on until I park the van. If I turn the van back on the lights are off, but once I begin driving again all three warning lights come on. I have had the van. I have read that there is a serious problem with this happening in Ford Windstar vans and it has resulted in fires. I am terrified to drive the van now, and would like to know when there will be a recall. This has been going on with my van, especially since the weather has gotten warmer.

2002 Ford Windstar keeps displaying check ABS or check traction control on the message center. Then the ABS or trac light turns on the dash. After car is restarted the messages go away. Will happen every once in a while. My mechanic just told me there is a faulty ABS control module and sensor. I cannot afford to replace that. I read reports that this is a problem with the Windstar and a fire can result. My wife drives my 3 kids around in this vehicle.

We own a Ford Windstar 2002 van. The following are occurring: Lost brake fluid, brake light, speedometer and odometer stopped working, ABS brake light, check engine light, cruise control will not activate and this is caused by leak in the brake pressure differential deactivation switch. The lights on the dashboard are permanent and I will need to take van in to the Ford dealer for repairs. Since this is a serious and dangerous matter caused by a defective part, we hope that they will recall this part and cover the costs for the parts and labor. We are disappointed with Ford.

1-1-08, smoke from engine on a road trip, noticed leak from hoses connected to ABS, (brake fluid). Connector melted and was removed. Melted deactivation switch, continual loss of brake fluid, new brakes installed to no avail, continual squeak of brakes. Complete loss of brakes over the last few months. Almost in two accidents due to complete loss of brakes while my children were with me in the vehicle. The only thing that works is adding brake fluid every other day. Replacing fuses continually since. Brake light, ABS light goes on. Causes a short with the cruise control and odometer readings. Continual activation of brake light after brake service. Melted ABS, ECM wiring connector. This needs to be recalled asap to prevent any future problems, and the possibility of someone getting killed.

My wife was driving our 2002 Ford Windstar and noticed smoke coming from under the hood and it smelled electrical. My 19 year old son noticed the smoke coming from the wires under the master cylinder. They called me and I suggested removing the wires from the brake pressure switch. He did but they were extremely hot. I did some online research to find a problem with Windstar pressure switches and wiring catching fire. I am glad a fire didn't start, but it could have. I would like to see Ford include 2002 Windstar in their recall.

I have reported this before, but the problem went away this past winter and has now returned when the outside temperature started to rise. Intermittently both the brake light and ABS light on my 2002 Ford Windstar will come on while I'm driving. If I shut the van off and then turn it back on the problems goes away, sometimes for that day, sometimes for a week or more. I have taken it to the Ford dealership multiple times but they could never find the problem and its no longer covered by warranty, so I've gotten tired of taking it to them and have them tell me that they can't find the problem.
