After reading all these complaints, I am literally in shock! not to mention scared to death not only for my child's lives, but for myself/husband and other close family member's & friends that have also traveled with us past/present! this is a shame, that this many Windstar have all had this many/relative problems! I for one could not believe how every review from so many states were all linked! as I read many of these reviews/complaints I honestly had to ask myself have I posted here before" -as you can tell my Windstar is yet another victim added to the list. I took my van in yesterday to a Ford dealer for the recalls, picked it up today. I was given a inspection report card with different systems/components/tire/brake wear etc... 3 boxes along side of each green, yellow & red with the similar meaning as a stop light. Green=ok, yellow=may require future attention & red=immediate attention. It was brought to my attention that my tires box were checked yellow for all 4. this seemed odd to me considering I have a receipt that shows it hasn't been a month since I had 2 brand new goodyears put on the front! however, I do agree with the remark regarding the back. But this concerned me as to what type of inspection my van had went under.". and need I say before I got home from a 25 minute drive from the Ford dealer my ABS & brake lights are back on, surprise! I'm going to contact Ford in the morning, in regards of hopefully getting a helpful answer/explanation or at least a another appointment scheduled for a second opinion regarding my recall inspection!

The brake light, ABS and traction control lights in the instrument cluster are lit and the ABS and traction control mechanisms no longer work. This results in increased braking distances and poor performance on snow and ice. This is for a Ford Windstar 2002.

We had the wiring harness recall performed in June 2010. Shortly after the recall was performed the ABS, brake & trac control lights started to illuminate intermittently. We have replaced 2 ABS sensors among other things however the lights continue to come on. Took van to dealer today for axle recall & informed them of ABS, brake & trac light issue. They said wiring harness was replaced & there was no leakage @ the time they replaced. I asked them to please look & see if they noticed any signs of leakage around ABS module. After 2 minutes they came back & said no. They said that it was probably a sensor when I told them they have been replaced they said well we would have to hook car to machine & check codes which would cost me $80 (mind you auto zone is free). I have come to understand that there are many Ford Windstar owners who have the exact same problem and I believe that this problem is due to faulty materials or wiring and that ABS module needs to be replaced but because it's so costly Ford will not recall the part. I have three young children that are being driven in this vehicle. I don't feel safe driving this vehicle without the proper safety features I was promised - including anti-lock brakes. Ford holds a lot of peoples lives in their hand due to this problem (whether it be the car catches on fire or loses braking power), they can't replace a life or an entire family for that matter but they can surely replace a faulty part. Please I am begging to make Ford recall this problem that is affecting so many people, make it part of the original recall, it's all related!!!

In my 2002 Windstar the ABS and brake lights come on while driving and will go off only to come back on another time while driving. In 2009 we had the safety recall taken care of, but it did not resolve the issue. Now I am noticing while I have the van running, heat and radio on, the radio and clock lights will go on and off. Also, the back doors do not always unlock and it will take several times of pressing the power door locks to unlock before they will unlock. I am fearful there will be an issue and I will need to get my daughter out quickly and won't be able to because of the door lock issue.

I have a 2002 Ford Windstar LX. My an has been receiving regular service ever since we purchased it in 2003. I've had a ABS and brake light turning on a random times and it has begun to affect brake stopping distance. I've looked into this problem and it seems to be a very common problem with the Windstar. Many say this problem can be fixed by replacing the ABS ECM module which is very costly to replace.

I own a 2002 Ford Windstar minivan and have had issues with the brake light and ABS light staying on. I have had the vehicle to the shop for recall work and the light remained on. I had the ABS module replaced and the light still stays on. The vehicle smells like burning fluid after being driven and the brakes have gone out twice now for short periods of time. This is a safety hazard. This has been going on for over a year and no one can seem to figure out the problem.

2002 Windstar - brake and ABS indicator lights on dashboard intermittently activated. Lights will come on at random, sometimes at engine start, other times while driving. Both lights will illuminate at the same time. Turning the engine off and on will cause them to go out.

After having the 2002 Windstar serviced at a Ford dealership for a recall related to ABS failure and possible fire we noticed a burning plastic smell. The smell lasted the entire day after picking the Windstar up at the dealers. We immediately called the service dept to report the smell and they stated the burning smell could not be related to the service they performed. The ABS and brake light came on later that day and has now been on intermittently ever since. We have noticed an increased stopping distance in wet weather. We have now had the Windstar in and had it diagnosed and the codes state that all 4 ABS wheel speed sensors have failed. That would include the brand new wheel speed sensors that have been replaced in an effort to get the ABS and brake lights to go out. When the codes are cleared the ABS light will stay off anywhere from minutes to hours depending on each reset. It is my belief that the brake problem is related to the recall.

The ABS light continues to stay on at all times. Periodically, the brake light also lights up and simultaneously, the speedometer doesn't work. The brake light and speedometer malfunctioning occurs about once a month. I've taken my car into a Ford dealership to check the ABS light. They say the entire module needs replaced, but there's nothing wrong with the car mechanically. The recall for the scds has already been performed on my car, but the ABS light error has never been corrected. To replace the module, the dealership told me I would have to pay $1800. I have come to understand that there are many Ford Windstar owners who have the exact same problem and I believe that this problem is due to faulty materials or wiring. I have three children and one on the way and don't feel safe driving this vehicle without the proper safety features I was promised - including anti-lock brakes.

I own a 2002 Ford Windstar which was recalled in December 2009 for the leaking scds, Ford ref 09S09. My local dealership repaired the switch by installing a jumper switch in the harness. Today 20th November 2010, I have had my van back at the Ford dealership as I have had a major brake fluid leak from the scds which was leaking onto my ABS module switch. I assumed this was covered under the existing recall, but Ford refused to pay for the repair and I had to pay for it myself. I had the service rep contact Ford, Canada and again they refused to warranty the repair. I am disgusted at the attitude of Ford. I had to put in 500ml of brake fluid into my master cylinder over a period of 3 days, that's how bad my leak was. The service rep at Ford confirmed that the scds was leaking and after I refused to drive the van from the dealership, they still refused to pay for the repair, they told me they had done all they could under the existing recall number 09S09 and that was all they were obliged to do. I would like this documented as this was a serious brake fluid leak and a potential fire related incident and Ford of Canada refused to deal with this very serious safety issue. Thanks

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the ABS and brake lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The ABS would fail when the light illuminated. The cruise control and speedometer also malfunctioned. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000 and the current mileage was approximately 115,000.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While the contact was driving approximately 15 mph, the transmission failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the transmission was replaced under the service warranty. The transmission failure reoccurred six months later and was replaced with a new transmission. The transmission and radiator were replaced on two different occasions. The contact paid the cost for the repair expense for the one radiator replacements. In addition, the vehicle experienced a failure with the front brakes and front rotors, which had required annual replacement. Also, while driving the rear axle fractured. The failure mileage was unknown.

ABS and brake lights keep coming on. Cruise control not working. Speedometer, odometer and airconditioning have also stopped working. Due to short in the cruise control disable switch aka brake pressure differential deactivation switch located under the master cylinder caused from brake fluid leaking onto it. This in turn blew the #10 fuse. This switch is covered with brake fluid and could start a fire at any time. I have stopped driving it until I can replace the switch and clean off the brake fluid.

I was driving to reno Nevada from calfornia when I started to smell smoke, I pulled over and open the hood and I seen that my plug that goes under the brake fluid box was smoking really bad. I let it cool down and I drove for another 10 min into the road and I notice that my fuse had burn out, at the same time I started to smell something burning. When I notice more smoke coming from under my hood I pulled over. I open the hood and I notice it was from the same plug the ABS plug that is. Well it was melting. I call a friend to make sure it was alright to unplug the ABS plug off he said yea. Well im just writing this cause I notice also that brake fluid was dripping into the plug.. to me it seem that it was shorting it out. So please for our safety keep this in mind that this could start a fire..
