Acadia SLT2 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

I have had nonstop problems with this water leak since buying this piece of junk in 2016. I took it in a handful of times to the dealership that I bought it from and they would keep it for a week or two at a time to “check for a leak”. The first few times they told me that it did not leak at all and made me feel like they thought I was lying about it. The next few times they saw the leak but could not find the exact cause of it or how to fix it. I did have all of the seals around the sunroof replaced but it still continued to leak afterwards. I had seen people online say that they successfully sealed the whole top of the car up with liquid rubber so I spent a whole day sealing every seal that I could find on top of the car and down towards the windshield. I think it might have helped a little bit because it doesn’t leak as much as it use to, but the water still comes in. Every time it even just drizzled outside it gets inside the car.

At one point the water was coming in from the DVD player and the back overhead light near the hatch, but it has not done that for a year or two now thankfully. It has always and still leaks directly above the drivers seat and down onto the dash area and sometimes on the passenger side as well. The water leak blew the cars amp out maybe 2 years after I got it so I have no radio or sound coming from the car. When it first went out the speakers would make random VERY LOUD screeching static noises which I assume was them getting ruined by all the water getting inside of them. The area where the battery sits always gets water collected inside of it and I am so afraid that it is going to ruin the battery and all of the electrical parts in the car or worse, cause a fire.

I have lost all hope in trying to figure out where it’s leaking from or trying to stop it. This summer has been one of the wettest in years and it looks and smells like there is mold starting to grow up inside the headliner and also some growing down in front of the driver side seat. I really wish GM would acknowledge their fault with this year of Acadias and came out with a recall to fix the issue because I’ve seen sooo many others dealing with this same issue and it is not fair that we have to waste our time and money because on it. I am not planning on buying another GM vehicle ever again.

I had no Idea about this problem Normally I garage my Acadia. I had trouble starting it so i left it in the driveway for 3 weeks. I have two other cars, so we usually only use the GMC for trips. I came home one day and noticed my two front air bacs had gone off. And that the car was flooded. GMC said it was my fault because I did not clean the drainage tubes. I never knew they existed; I have had multiple cars with sunroofs and have never had this problem. GM sucks, Oh by the way the Bill for the repair is $6000.00. I am getting a lawyer ad I am going to get my money back and then some for the aggravation.

PS when GM denied my claim I asked the agent to send me specifics why they denied it and why it was my fault. She said she would. I got a letter 10 days later. The letter only said that after review they denied my claim. (It took them almost 30 days to tell me that.) I called the agent back and asked again for her to send me the information why they denied my claim and she said they do not do that, and that she never, said that she would send it. More insult to my intelligence. I will never purchase a GM product again in my life and I will make it my mission to discourage anyone i know that is looking to buy a car the terrible service provided by GM. What the hell is wrong with them, My tax dollars bailed them out. I suggest everybody on this page that has had this problem call GM customer support and file a claim. Even if they don’t give it to you, At least you made them work. Also please report this issue to the NHSTA National Highway and safety transportation Authority. There are multiple instances of this issue. once they get enough reports GM will be forced to cover this problem.

I bought this car off a show room floor so I'm sure the dealer knew of the issue but did not tell me not to mention there is a recall on that expired in 2009 and can now not be done without me paying. I drove it 3 times and the issues started. Living in Seattle IT RAINS. It started leaking throughout the front of the car which then lead to electrical issues. Car stays running after shut off and the battery dies. Now I have to disconnect the battery to insure it does not die and I cannot drive in the rain. HELLO THIS IS WASHINGTON!

Update from Dec 29, 2015: I had to bring my Acadia to the Chevrolet speedway dealership twice to finally stop the leaking, I should note this is not the same place I bought it and the repair shop at this chevy lot has been very good to me so far, however it did cost me $1000. to stop the leaking. I then took it home for 1 week and the check engine light came on and something drained the battery so the car died. I have now taken it back and they are looking to see if water is getting to the fuse box but they are very unsure. Again they have been very helpful putting me in a loaner and trying to keep the cost down however I have been told this is a big issue with the acadia's and several other cross overs like it especially the 08 make. It has the highest complaints filled and GMC has yet to fix the issue. If I would have know all this I would have never bought a GMC so do your homework before you buy. Like I said there are several bulletins on this make along with the Buick enclave, Saturn outlook and the Chevrolet Traverse and the more I read the more it seems they have a hard time fixing the issue which in the end with the electrical issues due to water leads to most repairs ranging in the $3000 range.
