A/C condenser leaking A/C condenser leaking

As it is the winter time in the south, I didn’t really notice the unit not functioning properly until the compressor stopped working. So the leak must have been very slow until the compressor shut off for lack of coolant.

I’ve told GM that this is the last vehicle I buy from them. My wife’s new vehicle is a Ford Expedition. I have been a loyal GM customer for 27 years. When I do a search and find this is a common problem that they refuse to address, and I’ve had 2 AC issues, it infuriates me. They wouldn’t cover the AC compressor 200 miles out of factory warranty. Thank goodness I bought an extended warranty, or this would’ve cost me a total of $4000 in repairs. GM quality is gone!

All these complaints over the same thing, and GM refuses to acknowledge that it's a common issue. Lick your wounds, GM, and recall your faulty parts on a $50k truck. Had a Honda and got more recalls in the mail than I can count, but at least they could stand behind what they built.

I live in Jackson, MS and we have two seasons here summer and sometimes January. The air conditioner just stopped working completely at the height of the start of our annual pollen onslaught. I took my truck to the dealer who gave me the news that the condenser was leaking and had to be replaced. Total cost, $1199.69 of which an even $600 went to labor.

It is evident that this problem doesn't present itself until approximately 60,000 miles or so which puts the kibosh on any early consumer investigation. I had been a loyal GM customer for years - maybe familiarity on their part has bred contempt for their customers.

No more.

My A/C is leaking at the radiator-oil and A/C cooling unit. I took it to a professional Auto A/C repair shop and without lifting the hood he told me what the problem was. He then showed me and he was correct. He said it is a very common problem with GM and they refuse to warranty it. I took it to another place and they told me the same thing. GM absolutely refuses to correct a defect in their vehicle and expect the owner to fork out $1,000 to get it fixed.

Time for a class action suit.

Add me to the long list of GMC Sierra owners with a defective A/C condenser unit. As other complaints state you can see the staining from the leak at an upper weld location of the condenser. I would classify this as a manufacturing issue as my 1998 GMC has not developed the same issue with many more miles

Sierra 1500 SLE 5.3L

AC stopped blowing cold air in June 2019. I was buying freon each week to refill and finally took it to a good mechanic. He diagnosed and also helped point me in the right direction for the class action law suit. I tried contacting GM customer care and they don't care. I was offered a $100 service voucher and that just covers the service department diagnostics fee. Talked to the "one level up" person and it was terrible. He had no confidence in GM doing anything. GM needs to step up and fix the issue, and get customer care people that believe in their company.

I have been buying GM products all my life and now question my loyalty based on their loyalty to me. Looks like I will have my local mechanic in Greensboro NC repair the AC system. At least he will do the job right.

We were on a family trip. it was 103 degrees outside. We got in the truck and turn on the a/c but it was blowing hot air. I charged the truck with freon and it started blowing cold air. A week later it happened again. This happened 4 times. I took the truck to the dealership and I was told the a/c condenser was leaking and need a new a/c condenser. I asked how much it would cost to replace the a/c condenser. Parts and labor $1300.00 plus tax. It's funny that the dealership says it takes 7 hours but other repair shops said it takes 2-3 hours to replace the a/c condenser. I have owned chevy and gmc trucks since 1976 and never had to replace an a/c condenser in any of my vehicles. Faulty a/c condenser should be on the Recall list. General Motors needs to fix this problem.

Sierra 1500 TK 5.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission

Air conditioner suddenly blows hot air. Out of warranty, our mechanic says it's over $1000 to fix. He recharges it and it works about an hour. We live in Florida, I have multiple sclerosis, which is made worse by heat, therefore I cannot be in this truck at all during the warm weather. It seems like an issue that GM is aware of. They should step up and fix the issue. May have to trade it or sell, then GMC will lose our future business. Hope I don't get sick because of it .

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra Denali with 69000 miles the AC condenser is leaking at the welds and it is a known GM problem. After calling customer service they offered no help to fix the problem. $800.00 later I had to fix. This will be my last GMC truck. And they wonder why they're having layoffs? Poor Customer service will come back after time and more people are buying other brands.

Sierra 1500 Texas Edition 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,977 miles

I bought my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 Texas Edition certified pre-owned with 3,500 miles. When the A/C quit working they told me the condenser was leaking and needed to be replaced. They said it looked like a rock hit it. This was at 53,844 miles.

Now get this! My A/C quit working again 2yrs later with 118,404 miles. They told me again it looked like a rock it, are you kidding me. What crap!

GMC should be taking care of this problem. My friend also bought a 2014 GMC Sierra new off the lot a couple of month before I did and his condenser has gone out 2 times as well.

2014 vehicle would ensure at least 4 years of operation without major repair needed. Unfortunately, GMC has known about the issue with leaking AC condenser on this model but will not warranty the replacement. Since GMC won’t replace the unit, GMC will not be chosen as a replacement for my next vehicle purchase in August.

Real bad. Why doesn't GMC do a recall? It is really horrible. I had 3 GMC's and maybe no more They need to do a recall. Condensers shouldn’t leak. It cost me just today $1300, I pick up tomorrow hope it is fixed. But really hope GMC does the right thing and recalls. I saw a lot of people have the same problem. I want my hard earned money back.
