We contacted sarah at GMC corporate on 1/2 concerning covering brake repair costs. At the end of last year, my husband had intermittent brake issues while driving at low speeds. We immediately took the truck to the dealer (mid-Dec, 2019). This brake recall issue was 'fixed' by fitzgerald GMC in rockville, md. However, after the 'recall reapir, ' toward the end of Dec 2019 and into Jan 2020, the brakes continued to randomly function improperly at low speeds. Fitzgerald wants to charge us for the diagnostic and for repairs ($1100). We are hoping that GMC will cover the cost of fixing this recall issue, as the 'recall fix' from fitzgerald did not resolve the brake problem, and is a safety concern. I we told by sarah that GMC would consider covering as we are just outside the warranty but she would have to escalate the request to a senior advisor. To date (1/10/20) we have not received a response from GMC and our car sits at the dealership!

2 times now my truck brakes did not work. I mean, they literally didnt work. The first time it happened my pickup almost hit my house. The second time it happened the pickup hit another vehicle at my home causing damage to both vehicles. I am currently in fear of driving this pickup truck do to these 2 brake failures. Will the next crash actually hurt someone? GMC needs to repair these brake failure issues. Again, there was absolutely no brakes even though I pressed on the brake pedal as hard as I could. The property damage amount from the second brake failure is well over $2,000. Please have GMC repair/fix this problem so I can drive my pickup without worry and more damage.

Brakes had already been repaired by dealer under recall prior to this incident. For several weeks I noticed problems. The hill assist would not hold even when braking the truck rolled back on hills. The petal would feel hard like something was keeping it from depressing. Finally, the brakes failed again while I was in line at a fast food restaurant. One second they worked, the next they did not! I was moving slowly and able to put it in park. Got out and asked for help moving it out of line and into a parking spot. I put it back in gear once people had stopped cross traffic and rolled slowly into a parking spot. Approaching the light pole, I depressed the brake again and it would not depress. There was a scraping sound and I pumped them several times, but it didn't feel like there was any give at all. I rolled to curb and put into park. I had the truck towed to dealer, traded it for another car and never drive again. Date was November 15, 2019. 8:30 am. The truck had approximately 50,750 miles on it. Very scary and dangerous as there were many pedestrians including children in parking lot and using crosswalk which transects drive lane. This problem was supposed to have been fixed at dealer just a few weeks before, so fix obviously did not work!!

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. While depressing the brake pedal, the pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle was unable to stop. The contact mentioned that the emergency brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to ferguson Buick GMC (1015 N interstate dr, norman, ok 73069, 405-561-4775) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the master cylinder, ABS pump, and sensor for the vacuum pump needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred a week later. The vehicle was taken to ferguson Buick GMC (1015 N interstate dr, norman, ok 73069, 405-561-4775) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump and ABS pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,500.

The contact owns a 2016 a GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started wobbling. The vehicle was taken to wallingford Buick GMC (1122 old North colony rd, wallingford, ct 06492, (203) 269-8741) where the brake pads on the front driver's side wheel were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and test driven. The technician diagnosed that the rotors needed to be resurfaced, the front brake pads needed to be changed, the transmission fluid needed to be drained, and the computer needed to be reset. The contact retrieved the vehicle and the failures recurred the following day. The dealer advised the contact to give the vehicle a few thousand miles to work out the failures and stated that the transmission was adjusting to the contact's driving habits. The vehicle was not repaired again and the failures were still present. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

I was on my way back from a beach vacation Saturday, June 29, 2019 along with two other vehicles driven by other family members. I drive a 2016 Sierra 1500 slt with 30,000 miles on it. After driving for 1 1/2 hours with many opportunities to use my brakes, our convoy needed to make a stop to turn left. To my great surprise the power assist was not working. At first I thought I had no brakes at all. I pressed hard with both feet and stopped the truck before I rear ended my son in law and his family. Scared me to death!! I phoned ahead to our lead car and told them I had serious vehicle problems. There's no way I could drive 400 miles with heavy traffic safely. We searched for the nearest GM dealer and selected J. M.jackson in andalusia, al. Even though it was a Saturday, the sales people called the service manager who came in along with a service tech. Shorty I had a new vacuum pump installed and there was no charge since GM had issued a service bulletin. But now I'm worried about another failure. I barely avoided an accident this time. There was absolutely no warning prior to failure. After the initial failure to brake properly, I got a service brake assist message. Very dangerous failure. A crash was narrowly averted.

When moving slowly, the ABS errantly actuates resulting extended stopping distance. This happens intermittently. The last time I was moving at a slow (walking speed) pace in a parking lot to position to park. When I applied the brakes (which should have stopped the vehicle immediately) the ABS kicked on and, with the brake pedal firmly depressed, the vehicle rolled another 12ft (approx) almost striking another car with some people standing nearby. I feel the vehicle is unsafe and cannot insure an accident will eventually result.

Truck hesitates, jumps, and bumps when applying brakes. When stepping on brakes to stop, it bumps and jumps before it actually comes to a full stop. It seems you really have to step on the brake hard to make it come to a full stop. This is worse on low speed, below 30 mph, stop and go traffic. There were a number of instances I almost rear ended vehicles in front of me due to this problem. The truck also bumps and jumps when taking off. I think this started a few months after I got the truck brand new. It is getting progressively worse. I took it a number of times to GM service center; they did a transmission relearn, software updates, and transmission flush--truck got better for only a few hundred miles, then same problems recurred. The latest couple of times I went back to GM service, they told me nothing is wrong with my truck. It has been very frustrating dealing with this problem and GM service for the past 3 years.

This issue began last year in Nov. 2018. We were in traffic and stopping and going until we couldn't stop and the brake pedal was to the floor and the car was still moving. We brought the truck to the dealer and they said it was the brake pads. We payed $1700 to replace all the pads. The other day (3 months with the new brakes) the issue happened again and the truck wouldn't stop, almost causing an accident that could have seriously injured the elderly lady in front of us and ourselves. This issue is getting worse and presents a hazard to us and everyone on the road. This issue occurs at random times, slowing to get off an exit ramp, in traffic, stopping for cross walkers, etc. We brought it to the dealership and they require us to reenact (putting everyone in danger) the issue and until they experience it, they won't fix it. Leaving us with a car that doesn't stop that will sooner or later cause an accident.

When braking at low speeds, especially in reverse, brakes fail. I have to push the pedal all the way to the floor and they still do not operate correctly. This is a consistent, multi-incident, problem since purchase. Manifests especially when backing into a parking spot.

My truck brakes don't work when I am going slowly. I have to push in the brake pedal very hard and it feels like I'm stepping on a rock. The brakes don't work when I am moving slowly(drive through, pulling into parking space, pulling into garage, coming to a stop at an intersection when going slow). It is very scary. I have not hit anything yet, but I feel I will.

Brakes failed completely at low to moderate speeds both going forward and in reverse. Brake pedal went flat to the floor and the vehicle failed to stop. Initially occurred November 7, 2018 and has periodically recurred since then. As of March and April 2019 it has begun to recur more frequently. After the initial occurrence I took the vehicle immediately to the dealer. They could not replicate the problem and took no corrective action. They did recommend replacing the front brake pads and machining the rotors, which I had them do. Mileage was 44,522 at that time. It is back with the dealer today and the Focus seems to be the brake vacuum pump. Of course, the vehicle is now out of warranty so I'm waiting to see if they will perform the repairs at GMC's expense or not. If not, I will likely begin contacting other owners to create a group large enough to initiate a class action lawsuit.

With 48,000 miles, the brakes are very soft and ineffective at low speeds. Both in forward and reverse. In reading on line post, this appears to be a very common problem in 2014-2016 pickups. It appears the vaccuum pump is out and will need replaced. This should be a safety recall as I couldnt stop very well the first time it happened.

Brake pedal becomes extremely hard to depress. The vehicle fails to slow down at a reasonable rate even when very significant (foot) pressure is applied. This occurred many times; three occurrences when backing up and two occurrences when driving forwards. All of these event occurred at very slow speed, basically when moving the vehicle into a parking spot. All events were preceded by slow driving (< 4 mph) for about one minute. The loss of stopping power occurred suddenly; even a few seconds before there appeared to be no issue. Initially it was ignored as an individual occurrence, yet the additional occurrences indicate an issue.

While transiting on a major highway in North Florida the traffic came to a sudden stop and unfortunately when I pressed the brake pedal nothing happened, I had to push the peddle with extreme power and it still was not enough. To avoid the slower vehicles I had to pull the truck onto the grassy median to avoid a possible deadly collision. I was able to recover control of the truck thankfully. Mysteriously the brakes worked again when I came back onto the highway. I took the truck to a nearby GMC service dealer and after the truck was tested they informed me that they found a faulty brake vacuum pump. In discussion with the dealer they also informed me that this is becoming a "somewhat common" issue. Without warning or any indicator the brake system failed, this is completely unacceptable. Lives could have easily been lost due to a malfunction part. Vehicle only had 27K miles on it.
