my 2016 sierra 2500 suddenly lost steering with a good 5 inches of play in the wheel before anything happens. truck is 2 months out of the bumper to bumper with only 18k miles...just dropped it off and am waiting to see if gm will do the right thing and cover it...pit5501f is the problem exactly and they are well aware of the issue...I'm surprised it hasn't been reported here yet.
