The problem is not permanently fixed yet. I have to go back to the GMC dealer every now and then to get the shaft repacked to silence the noise...the rattling. It losens up every now and then. Like I said, pain in the ass. It will work for 20000 miles and then it will act up! I want to learn how to do this myself.

Since buying this SUV new I have had this steering problem fixed by the dealer four times under warranty. Now that I have over 100,000 miles I will be paying for "steering shaft peace of mind" every 20,000 miles.

I contacted the first tier and second tier of GMC customer service with no help or assistance from them. The intermediate steering shaft as been repacked with grease in 2004 and replaced in 2005, 30K miles later it is happening again. It will be another 500 to fix a known engineering issue with this GM vehicle and its similar models.
I will never buy another GM vehicle as long as I live... This vehicle has been riddled with annoying repairs and honestly, I have a Subaru that only requires routine maintenance. If the American car companies choose to make throw away cars and trucks then they should go out of business. You cannot stay in business living on a legacy, eventually inferior products will catch up.
To top insult to injury, I spoke to about five people in the customer service area of GMC throughout the last few days and I felt as if I was speaking to someone at Dell computers in India. Take a warning GM - Americans want to speak to Americans....
