Bought this 99 Honda Accord dx 4 door 5 speed back in 2006 from a Honda dealership. In the end of 2007 the car shut off on the high way while I was driving!!! thank god I didn't get into an accident! it then happened again a month later! it then happened quite frequently till I could no longer let the key go without it shutting off! when the car shuts off everything stops, including power steering!!! very dangerous!!! we looked over the car and looked online and found my car had a recall on it. We called Honda's 1800 number and they told us the car had already been recalled and fixed in 2002 so they didn't have to do anything for us!!! so why then a couple of years later would the same problem be happening!" I am scared that if I go and have it fixed it will just shut off on me again in four years, or less!? did they just replace the faulty part with another faulty part?! I have read some of the forums on line and they seem to indicate that it could be the wiring to the ignition switch and not the whole part. We have rigged the car by hanging objects off of the keys to get it to stay on... I know it's only a matter of time before it stops altogether! Honda refuses to take responsibility for they're products. They should not be aloud to continue this! how can we allow them to put unsafe vehicles on the road putting peoples life's in danger!"

Mileage at start of problem, , app 60,000 now 130,000 in 08! I bought my 99 Accord with 56,000 miles in 2003. I was called about the recall on the ignition switch, and Honda replaced it for free, although at that time I was not having any problems. Ok I started having problems with my car stalling. First time was on I40 going app 75. I was in the outer freaking lane and it just turned off. I lived with this very freaking hazardous problem for a long time because I didn't trust Honda and money (just note one of the phone calls from Honda the man told me he thought it was my ignition switch again and that they wouldn't be responsible for the cost of repair this freaking time but later decided it was something else, !)I was in college taking my emt practicals with an ems system and was having to drive to another county and be in contact via cell phone with Honda, and borrow my dads truck!! they had my car for days and keep calling and asking if one of there mechanics could drive my car to lunch, , and if they could take it home over night and so on, and finally said it wouldn't stall for them!!!!! I was '!@#$%! they did another diagnostic test of 75$ and my check engine light wasn't even on! they also said I needed new spark plugs, I had new spark plugs and im not an idiot, , there was nothing absolutely nothing wrong with the "!@#$% things. They also eventually decided that I needed my fuel system cleaned, because they really didn't know what to do and this is what they said themselves! they told me they wouldn't charge me for the diagnostic fee if I got the 120$ new spark plugs, mine were new and working very well. So of course I had no option. After reading S few complaints here and on other sites, I am seeing that they totally took me for over 500$ and that my problem was in my ignition switch, , im wondering if they snuck and replaced it again behind my back just to charge me for other '!@#$% they didn't do. I hate Honda I hate Honda, , I want some "!@#$% justice.

The contact owns a 1999 Honda Accord. The contact had his vehicle repaired according to NHTSA campaign id number 02V120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch) on September 27, 2002. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would sporadically stall without warning. The majority of the time, the vehicle could immediately be restarted after it stalled. The dealer stated that because his vehicle was previously repaired under the recall, they would not provide a free remedy. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 141,000 and current mileage was 150,000. Updated 4/29/08

When starting from cold in the morning, the vehicle coughs and does not accelerate when the accelerator is pressed. After some time the check engine light came up. Vehicle runs smoothly after engine warms up. Mileage reduced from 29 mpg in city to 25 mpg. The mechanic said the check engine light was for "lean fuel mixture". he reset the alarm and said nothing could be done. Same problem has repeated several times. Mechanic says that he has seen several vehicles with this problem and Honda released a kit to solve it but I'll have to buy it. Honda should recall all vehicles with this problem and install the kit.

While driving down the freeway going about 40mph the accelorator stuck and continued to accel at uncontrolable speeds. The brake would not stop the car and I had to put it in neutral and slam on the gas pedal to release it. I have since taken the car to mel rapton Honda and spoke to the service manager who claims that he has never heard of this happening. It has not done it since. I had a mechanic check the accelerator cables as well as the cruise control cables and there were no apparent problems.

On 9/19/02, I was leaving a store when my car started to make a rattling sound. I then lost power steering, all of the warning lights came on and the car stalled. I popped the hood to find that all of the engine belts had been thrown. After two days at the dealership, I was advised the crank bolt (key way and crankshaft pulley) had failed. The Honda dealership (don carlton, tulsa, ok) could offer no explanation as to why it happened, only that I was out of warranty. My repair bill was $536.61. I also incurred a $57.34 tow bill to get the car to the dealership.
