The bolt that holds the alternator in place has broken on 4 separate occasions. The first time it happened, I thought it was a battery problem, went to a rather unreliable mechanic (because I was out of town), was told that I needed a new alternator AND a new battery. Battery was under warranty still, so that only cost me $2. New alternator cost approximately $210. Less than 6 months later, bolt in the alternator broke once again - had battery checked, alternator checked, & that's when the broken bolt was found out. Cost me nothing to replace bolt because I was out of town again and went to same mechanic, demanding that he fix for free.. Approximately 6 months after THAT, it happened again. This time, it cost about $65 to fix because the broken bolt had to be drilled out and replaced. About 1 year ago, it happened the 4th time and I had my usual trusted mechanic fix it, replacing the bolt. Haven't had problems since, but that time it cost about an additional $80-100.
