We have been VERY happy with our 2000 Accord. Twelve years and 120k miles is not too bad. No major repairs in the life of this car, never left anyone by the side of the road. A new/used transmission is just too big an investment for this car, so gbye.

Bought the car used, in 2002. Had transmission replaced shortly thereafter. Within another 44,000 miles, transmission is failing again. This is a LOW-mileage, gently-used vehicle that will be worthless on a trade-in and all the mechanics I've contacted are having problems even finding a good transmission for it. Honda has refused to help pay for another transmission. If anyone knows of further action I may take, please let me know. Thank you!

I thought Honda Accord 2000 EX was the best car I ever had, until I had this transmission problem at 123,457 miles only !!! My car was jerking intermittently from stop to go and cannot accelerate. I went to a Honda dealer for diagnosis and said the 1st & 2nd gears are slipping. And so to fix this, the whole transmission assembly has to be replaced !!! It will cost me about S4,000.00 after discounts.. Are you kidding me? I refused the offer and had second opinion from a colleague who recommend a reliable shop with half the price or so compared to the dealer. This shop diagnosed that torque converter was worn out as well as the linear solenoid, and the transmission had to be rebuilt, not the whole transmission assembly. So i got it done. I was just thinking I took very utmost care of my car, religiously following all the required maintenance schedules, but to no avail. Now I certainly lost faith in Honda. Buying another Honda? Never again!!!

We are highly annoyed by this. We have kept the maintenance up on the vehicle, but now we are having issues with the transmission. We have found many many issues about the Honda's transmission online, but Honda is not willing to help. My husband and I will purchase many more cars in our life and if Honda does not help with fixing this problem, a Honda will not be one of the purchases. Nor will my husband or I suggest a Honda to anyone in our future.

I think I had a problem the entire time I had this car. It was always rough going from 1st to 2nd gear. Now it seems like the transmission 'overheats'. Once the car gets hot the transmission start slipping. The car drove fine in cold weather unless the engine got really hot. Now in the summer it starts slipping much faster. Drive for more than 10 or 15 minutes with a couple of stops and the sucker is hot and slipping.
I was expecting this car to last a lot longer than this. I went from 'my next car will be a Honda' to NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN.

2000 honda accord with only 84,000 miles - transmission went. You BUY hondas because they "last forever." Well - they don't!!
Honda would only cover $1100 of our bill. I NEVER received a letter from Honda informing me about faulty transmissions in 2000 Accords. They extended warranty to 109,000 up to 2007. Well, never got letter - could not have it checked out. Now I am paying for it.
Oh yeh- have purchased and leased 5 hondas . Do you know how much money I have spent with Honda Motor Corp. Kids are driving now. They will lose 2 generations of honda drivers and many many more thousands of dollars for their failure to NOT cover the remaining $2100. BAD BUSINESS - AWFUL customer service.

I'm starting to notice a slip between 1st and 2nd @ 90k. Really nice car I bought @ 85k and I hope there's no major issue here. I was told the speed sensor could be the prob and my cruise is not working and its hard to shift from park which is probably the brake/cruise sensor on brake pedal. any suggestions ? Thanks.

I bought the Honda because of their reputation. No more. This should not happen to as well a maintained car as mine. Honda has known of this problem with their transmissions for a long time but fails to fix it (All Hondas, not just mine).

I got my honda as a graduation gift from my parents in 2008 with only about 60000 miles. About 8 months later my car started shifting very hard and at times I would be pushing the gas as much as possible without going anywere. I then brought it to my local honda dealer and paid the $100 diognostic fee for them to tell me it was the shift solenoids and i would have to replace my whole transmission and that there was a silent recall for my year transmission but the recall was up. So I then brought it to a local machanic and he gave me a website to find a used transmission with 30000 miles or less guaranteed. Me being a broke college student did not have enough money to buy the transmission or pay for repair cost so the car sat at my parents house for about 8 months. After that i tried to drive the car again and it was doing fine, no more slipping no more check engine lights it was like new again. After driving it for 6 months the problems started occuring again so I let the car sit up again. More months passed by and i was able to buy the transmission from tigerjapanese.com I got it installed and that transmission last about a week until it started throwing the same transmission codes and started doing the same thing as the first one. Now Im out of money and out of solutions.

I was hoping to push at least another 5-10 years out of this car. The cost of this repair is almost as much as the cars full value! The worst thing is that I found out this is a common problem with this model/year. Shame on you Honda!

Our 2000 Honda Accord's transmission was recalled and replaced in Winter 2002 with a Honda refurbished transmission. Casing was used and the guts of the transmission supposedly new.
Now the gear slips into neutral and we don't know whether we should ask Honda to help us replace the defective transmission, help us defray the cost of replacing another (3rd) transmission. We do light city driving as senior citizens on a fixed income. Mileage is 92K. We thought by continuing careful maintenance of (oil, fluid, tire checks, etc.) that our car would easily go past 100,000. We were Honda enthusiasts and now our enthusiasm has been dampened. Deeply disappointed. Any helpful advice out there would be appreciated.

After replacing just about everything on this car including head gasket now the transmission light (D4) is blinking and engine light came on indicating torque converter. Car doesnt even have 100,000 miles yet and I was given to me by my 70 year old parents who were the first owners who had EVERYTHING serviced on time. What a piece of 'SH@#%$'.
Of course Honda wont fix it even though they've been sued.

i recently returned to work after being off for 4 months but unfortunately had transmission problems as i was traveling uphill,as it began to slip i had a mechanic do a diagnostic and the reading showed it was three readings p730,p740,&p780 and was so frustrated due to looking forward to returning to work.now the repairs are going to cost $3000.00 which i cant afford so again i am not able to return to work to make my deliveries,im so disappointed in Honda once again.

D4 light blinked. Transmission slammed into reverse. Check engine light went on. Honda dealer charged $100 to read problem. Said I needed 3K transmission.
Changed fluid. Check engine came on again, but went out. Have added Auto-Rx 1500 miles ago. No significant difference but not any worse...............yet.
Car runs well, but tranny slips going into 3rd. Also hesitates to engage when accelerator is pushed after slowing way down. Always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Third Honda. First was great. Second rusted but was great. This one is great but has a lousy transmission. Honda is not customer oriented anymore; especially, at a time when I cannot afford it, at 65.
When I wanted the "check engine" light turned off, Honda wanted $100. Went down the street and had it done for nothing, at a tranny shop.
