Accord EXL 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,000 miles

I have read that Honda is well aware of the defective starters but refuses to do anything to compensate owners out of warranty. My starter is just clicking and nothing else. It acted up but started a couple of times now it will not start. Will need to also be towed to repair shop. This is a Honda disgrace!

Accord LX 2.0L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,000 miles

My wife was stranded in school parking lot while trying to pick our kids as the car won’t start. It happened before in home garage and thought we must have left a light on or something. But the car won’t start now even with jump. I looked around and saw similar complaints about similar mileage. It’s likely a starter issue as I am observing many similar issues. Very disappointing as this is 2015 model with less than 26,000 miles on it. We have mildly used it and expected more for Honda. I won’t buy Honda again.

Update from Nov 18, 2021: It turned out in the end the issue was the battery. I was a bit surprised that jumping didn't work initially but when my neighbor let me use his slow charger, it worked. I changed my battery with Costco and it seems to work fine.

Accord LX 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 52,000 miles

Same starter problem as the hundreds of Accord owners have posted. Turn the key, dash lights on but no crank, no start. Started around 52K miles. It's intermittent. The car now has 85k miles and the problem is being more persistent. Talked a Honda dealer service manager to no avail except that the car would need a new starter. They would not cover it, even though it could be considered a defective part. If it didn't create a safety issue, Honda won't recall it. I guess there is no such thing as recalling defective parts anymore.

I've been a loyal Honda owner since 1992. I have purchased 6 vehicles from them in that period BECAUSE of their reliability and customer satisfaction. After seeing all the consumers who have purchased Hondas for those reasons that are having the same defective starter issues and are being ignored by HMC I, too, am deciding to stop using Hondas. I am appalled by the flagrant disregard of an obvious defectively designed starter that costs so much to replace. Yes, cars have wear and tear but this is more than that.

I am going to do my due diligence and contact HMC all your complaints, After reading all your complaints, though, I am not expecting much from them. It seems they turned a corner to where their bottom line is more important than their customers. I'd appreciate any knowledge as to any class actions that are taking place and how to jump on board. As to the repair, I will probably rebuild it myself. I am skilled mechanically and have the necessary tools.

I am sorry for all the inconvenience many of you have experienced and the unexpected high cost of a starter replacement. I feel for you. It is not chump change and Honda SHOULD STEP UP. It is an obvious design flaw that allows the starting contacts to be contaminated by the dust from commutator brushes. Defective starters.

The starter started to only work intermittently. Initially thought it was the battery, but had the battery tested and it was fine. The mechanic verified that it was indeed the starter motor.

My husband and I paid off the car in July. The starter went out paid for it not thru Honda. Sept 2020 it went out again and the mechanic replaced it. Now today 10/25/202 the same noise and hard to start.

That's not even the worst part a year after we purchased the car, the starter went out and Honda replaced it. One year after purchase June 2016 it was still under warranty I always believed Honda was a car I could rely on. This is ridiculous... I should have been told.

Accord EX-L 2.4cvt

  • CVT transmission
  • 79,888 miles

Financially challenged, retired widow bought used 2015 Honda Accord in excellent condition and no VISIBLE issues per my mechanic. 6 weeks after purchase, pushing starter button resulted in occasional grinding noise. This got progressively worse each week. Took to my mechanic who replaced starter with new Bosch one and showed me visible signs of wear. Problem returned with in a week and he said flywheel bolts could be removed and repositioned(visible damage found) but that didn't fix the problem either so he had to remove engine or transmission and replace flywheel.

There's no way I could have anticipated this issue. Had my last Honda accord for 13 years and only the motor mounts were weak. Everything else was normal wear and tear and I expected the same of this model. Total to repair: $3700. Has that second class action lawsuit been settled? If not, I need to get added to the class.

Accord LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

I bought the car in November, and drive it very little. The car had 35,000 miles on it. Now it has 36,700, and the starter is bad. Had a mechanic look at it, and he is in disbelief. He's been a mechanic for 32 years, and has never seen a Honda starter go bad this early. He advised that they usually go out when the car has over 100,000 miles on it. He went to the internet to see if other Honda owners where having issues with it, and saw that there is a class action law suit against Honda for this exact issue. What is Honda going to do about this?

Problem began a couple of months ago and thought problem might have been battery. After battery was replaced the symptoms did not go away. Problem became worse over time and while kids where home from college, scheduled to have starter replaced.

Very expensive based on fact that I bought another Honda for their reliability and dependability! Sent kids off to college with this vehicle to avoid such issues.
