gasoline in oil gasoline in oil

Honda has only admitted to issues in the 2016-2018 1.5 litre turbo engines of the Civic and CRVs. It has indicated that oil in these engines could be diluted because of software settings or potential hardware failures. Some vehicles could experience a lack of power, leading to cylinder misfires or engine noise.

I purchased a 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5 litre on Oct 27 2018

Honda misrepresented oil dilution issues to consumers. The 2018 Accord Sport 1.5 litre is the same engine as the CRV and Civic. Honda continues to hide this from consumers and therefore knowingly puts consumers in danger.

My car was purchased in 2018 from a Honda employee less then a year after he had purchased it new. He said he was selling due to an employee discount and he now wanted the 2.0 litre engine. When I researched the 1.5 litre engine and found there were oil dilution problems, I asked Honda if my engine would have this problem and if I needed the software update. I was advised that NO I didn't because my engine was not affected by the problems.

I sporadically noticed the smell of gas when driving and raised it in 2019 at a Honda appt. I was advised that they could not find/repeat the issue and therefore could not fix it. I continued to periodically notice the smell. (Have proof on a service receipt)

Recently, my car began to shake and rumble upon starting particularly when it had not been driven in few hours or overnight. It some times felt like it would stall and on one occasion would not start. I reported this to the dealer. They indicated that they were unable to recreate the issue and therefore not able to fix but did a software update.

The car continued to shake and make noise when starting and I brought it back to the dealer several times. They always acted surprised and they didn't know what could cause it and initially they never acknowledged anything. This left me disappointed and confused. At one point I was googling potential problems to try to help Honda find the mysterious problem. They dismissed my ideas but did not tell me the true cause.

On one of the days that I picked up my car (June 1) from service at the dealer where they did a "faux" fix, I had my 18 year old son and his girlfriend drive the Accord home and I had taken another car. On the way home on the highway the car would not accelerate past 40 km and shut down on the highway. They said an engine light came on and the car was shaking and shut down. They called me to tell me they were stopped on the highway and needed help. I came right away and tried starting the car. It started so I drove it slowly home and called a tow truck to bring it back to the dealer immediately.

June 3 dealer said by text that they had multiple techs road test it and couldn't recreate the shaking just yet. They ran air-fuel ratio tests and scanned for engine codes. They had Honda tech line involved to try to help the techs troubleshoot what's going on and they asked me to provide more details.

On different occasions Honda once did a software update, changed the fuel injectors (May 27) and another time changed the spark plugs. Each time I reported that I still had the shaking and noises.

On another occasion the car would not accelerate past 40km on the highway.

They told me they had tried to recreate my issue, had a few techs and the service desk girl drive the car. They just cant seem to recreate the issue. They asked me to monitor the issue and asked me to come pick it up.

Upon picking it up it still shook. It seemed like Honda was "unable" to fix my car. They basically gave me my car back and told me that we'll just have to see. I recall texting the Service Desk girl that I'll just wait for it get worse which seemed daunting since it had been losing power and shutting down.

June 14, I contacted dealer to bring it back again. I advised that it was still shaking and making noise and I had a series of warning lights and codes. This time they told me the codes said it needed spark plugs. Picked it up June 15.

I started to notice that when idling my air conditioning didn't work. I would literally be sweating in my car. One day I was waiting for my son at basketball in my car and warning signals came on saying to shut the car down it was over heating. The next day while waiting for my son again, I was sitting in my car making a work phone call and I was sweating it was so hot in the car. The warning lights came on again, saying it was over heating and I should shut it down. It continued at slow speeds as well.

I was eventually told the next "step" was to change the head gasket. A repair which was $3600 and 20 hours of labour. If I didn't do my maintenance it might not be covered by my warranty and I would need to pay. I advised her I was not happy about the gasket change as I had read online this will not fix the problem. This will lead me to later problems likely when I am out of warranty. I contacted Honda Canada who basically said they only have an obligation to fix it a few didn't care to help in any other way.

I’m in Supreme Court with this matter while Honda has my down payment and two months payment... I left this garbage at the dealer... they told me to “GET IT OUT OF HERE!”. I'm not dying a fiery death with this car so I left it there! NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM A BRAND NEW CAR WITH 800 miles... they ruined my credit and THE WHOLE AFFAIR IS A MESS!

I DID NOT EXPECT THIS FROM A HONDA !

Bought Accord with the 1.5 turbo in December of 2019. Never owned a Honda before but thought they had a great reputation (so I thought). I have over 40K miles on car now but it started a long time ago with the oil/gas dilution. Honda has not wanted to help out in any situation. They want me to pay them my extended warranty deductible so they can figure out their 1.5 turbo downfall.

Looking up the 1.5 turbo I see Honda has had a big problem with these motors. The thing that gets me upset is that Honda has done nothing and has tried to hide the fact that now the motors in the Accord have the dilution problems.

Accord LX 1.5L T

Purchased my (FIRST HONDA) 2018 Honda Accord LX in Jan-2018. Changed oil at 7500 miles and smelled fuel. I had a oil analysis done and it showed high levels of fuel and metal wear was moderately high. Took it to my Honda dealership and they said Honda does not have problems with the Honda Accord 1.5 liter Turbo even though it is the exact same engine.

I just changed my engine oil again and sent a sample off to get tested. Again, my oil fuel dilution is above 5%. I made another appointment to see if they will extend my warranty past 60k. I did talk with the Service Manager at the Honda Dealership and he said he doesn't know why I am bringing my car in for Honda does not recognize a fuel in oil problem.

Needless to say, I am selling this Honda and will buy a Toyota again. I am sorry I ever gave Honda a chance with my business. Sad this is what a great company has come down to. Profits over customer service.

Accord Touring 1.5L Turbo

The check engine light came on and the car shut down while driving at 60 mph and we coasted safely into a parking lot. We took into David McDavid Honda in Frisco, TX where they ran diagnostics and drove the car 2 miles and stated their computer systems didn't find any error code and dismissed our issue.

We did some research and apparently there is an issue with gas in the oil. We decided to check the oil stick and the moment we pulled it out the smell of gasoline was strong. The oil resisted way above the max fill line (the dipstick was wiped and put back in for a minute and pulled out).

Since day on the dipstick always looked over full, but never thought to sniff for gas until today. I never could get an actual reading because the way it looked (above the line) so I'd just bring in and change it when oil said at 50%. On one occasion the car slammed its brakes while trying to avoid a construction plate covering a hole on street. Cars we're parked but I didn't get that close to the parked cars when trying to swerve plates. Car has a remote start but they don't me. I have to now buy a different key chain and have Honda program it to my car so I can use my remote start. So Honda Accord sport 1.5t is also effected with this oil/gas dilution issue.

Accord EX 1.5t

Honda has a fuel dilution problem with the 1.5t engine. Oil level rises on the dipstick, due to fuel getting into the oil. Had an oil sample taken and the results after 5000 miles on mobil one, the oil showed oil dilution above 5 percent and a significant loss in oil viscosity. Honda has had a good reputation with engine longevity, but time will tell with this one.

I am really disappointed in this car. Everything else about the car is awesome. However, having gas in the oil is a major problem and it appears that Honda has known about this for a while now. I really hope that they get this taken care of and I have no other problems with the vehicle.

Accord Sport 1.5t

Honda has a big problem with their 1.5L turbo engines. They are trying to keep it quiet but this engine accumulates excessive gasoline in the oil which causes increased wear and tear. Honda which was always the leader with great engines completely dropped the ball and are trying to cover it up and telling people nothing is wrong because they know your cars engine will not go the distance, but will get out of warranty before failure. They have already been forced in China to recall over 350,000 cars with this engine and they are also considering not allowing Honda to sell the 1.5L turbo in China. Also a class action lawsuit is being developed in the United States because of this engine.

The main problem is from excessive Blow-Back which is something that should only happen on worn down engines with many years of wear on their piston rings. This is very important because your oil begins to lose its viscosity when gasoline is introduced and your engine starts wearing down much quicker. This can also be a catalyst to engine knock which will destroy your engine. The interior cabin can also start smelling like gasoline.

This problem is exasperated if you drive in colder weather, drive short distances (under 5 miles), or accelerate quickly (engine lugging). Don't take my word for it, do some research because I think its terrible Honda is covering this up.
