The ac went out last October and I never bothered to take it in until now. The dealer tells me the whole system has to be replaced and I do not have warranty. Although I have taken this car in for every recommended service and oil change and the a/c went out just after 36,000 miles. The service rep is going to talk to the District Honda manager to see about getting some of the fee waived. I haven't heard yet. I did discover that there are HUNDREDS of CR-V owners with the same problem and ton's of complaints can be found on various forums. Their has been service notices issued by Honda, there is one class action suit, and Honda admitted to the problem but did not issue a recall and will not normally cover costs. I'm going to by a Toyota.

Honda is aware of this issue and is leaving many consumers holding the bag. Their is a major issue with the A/C compressor imploding and scattering debris into other A/C components. Honda should issue a recall as this is caused by an internal failure of the compressor. The compressor fails, implodes and then the internal debris travels into the condenser and often beyond leaving a repair bill in the thousands. There are many complaints about this on a multitude of auto boards, so it is not an isolated problem. Honda consumer affairs will take complaints on a one on one basis but in most cases the consumer gets the raw end of the deal.
UPDATE: I was fortunate that I was able to negotiate with Honda's consumer affairs and my dealer's service department has made the repair.

Honda knows this is a problem and if they issued a recall then the condenser could be replaced. As it stands when the condenser goes out, it takes the entire a/c system with it.
