I have my Honda CRV-2009 for 6 years now. Since the first 1000 KM that I've been using it, am hearing a knocking sound on the engine area. I thought that it was just an object stuck on wheels but when I stopped to check, there was none. I brought it to the nearest Honda service center and they said my tires have uneven wear, they also said that it's common problem with CRV's to have uneven tire wear. So I have to replace my every 2 years because of this and the annoying sound keeps coming back even after 5,000 KM after I put new tires.

Second set of tires that show cupping after about 40000 km and have bad road noise . Honda and the dealer where I bought the CR-Vdoes not stand behind their product as I had another issue that the company and dealership refused to help with and it was only fixed after another dealer refused to give up and solved the problem.

Bought car from Diamond Bar Honda with new tires. Car exhibited excessive tire noise with new tires (as did the other CRV we test drove). Finally forced us to see the local dealer who said tires were cupping on the rear and needed an alignment. The dealer said Noise would not stop without tire replacement but tires have less than 15k miles. Noise is still there. Never had a car with this problem and have had a few cars that were piles off the showroom floor. Concerned this buy was a mistake. Back to Toyota?

Went to Honda dealership to have normal oil change and tire rotation done. I was informed by service advisor that my tires were worn down too much and would not do the rotation and recommended a complete new set (only 29K on the vehicle). This was along with other 30K mile service that would have cost me over $2500. I expressed my concern on why the tires only lasted this long (I take meticulous care of my car) and they told me it is a common problem with the factory tires I have. Then to boot they tell my I also need an alignment. The tires are worn and I'll be looking for another brand to replace them and hopefully will last longer. Also my tire shop has tires for much less than the dealer. I purchased the vehicle for it reliability and low cost of ownership but going to the dealer I feel like I'm getting fleeced for crying out loud!!

CR-V EX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,000 miles

My 3rd Honda CR-V since 1997. The 2005 and (currently owned) 2009 models had horribly inept tires for expected mileage/wear. I expect more than 20- to 24, 000 miles out of new tires on a brand new vehicle. Love the CR-V in every other way, but Honda is stealing money with the cheap Continental tires they put on the new vehicles.

We had what I now see is a very common problem. About a year into owning a Honda, which everyone always says is so reliable, we had to replace all four tires. I have never had any car need tires this soon. Its very obvious that Honda is putting crap tires on these new cars.

On 09-26-2009 I purchased a 2009 model Honda CRV as brand new. I was maintaining required maintenance on time. After 23000 miles mt TPMS light showed up and I took to the Discount tire shop where they informed me that all my tires worn out and needs to be replaced soon. I was also informed that the tires that I had ( Bridges tone. Dueler H/T 470 ) no warranty at all. So I had to change all my tires with a different brand With full price. I am very upset with this deal about Honda sold me a vehicle with cheap tires that worn out after 23000 miles and has no warranty at all. I am really frustrated with American Honda dealers.I would like some one contact me about this issue as early as possible.

Thank you.

First and foremost, we LOVE HONDAS. It is disheartening to see them acting like GM, straight up. That's what has happened, though. I broke this vehicle in at 62 mph on open highway. I can get 30 mpg. If the tires were right I could probably get 32-33. With SO VERY MANY of us having this problem, you would think Honda would be beating a path to our doors to get this right- we love Honda after all. Instead, they surrender their market share in the same malevolent unsupportive ways that caused GM to collapse. I personally do not want to say another word to the lunatic rep that I spoke with this morning. He is a waste of time in grand ways: I liken telling him my concerns to writing the my words down in beach sand at the water's edge. Just as useful.

Phhtt. Egads, what a rigamarole Honda's service dept is.

Update from Apr 9, 2011: We won our LEMON LAW COMPLAINT. The 2009 Honda CRV's do not have a rear camber adjustment. So if your report shows greater than 1.0 Degrees, it's a Lemon, at least in my state.

Here is the letter I sent to Honda:

November 16, 2010

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Honda Automobile Customer Service 1919 Torrance Boulevard Mail Stop: 500 - 2N - 7D Torrance, CA 90501-2746

Customer Service,

My wife and I are the owner of a 2009 Honda CRV purchased at the Honda House in St. Cloud, Minnesota about 1 year ago. Incidentally, this is the 2nd CRV I have purchased, we still have a 1997 model as well.

Today I had to shell out $435.50 for new tires and an alignment for the 2009 CRV which has 20,061 miles on it. When I contacted the dealer I was told to contact Goodyear regarding the tire warranty. My wife and I did this and the result was they replaced the tires at a cost of $435.50 (which included the alignment).

The car has never had an incident to explain the alignment problem so I assume it was delivered that way. It did have approx. 300 miles on it upon delivery.

The tires on the car were Goodyear Integrity and at the time we purchased it we were told they were an upgrade. (thanks a lot??)

I find it totally unacceptable to have to deal with this when the car only has 20,000 miles. It was not only the cost but our time to contact and work with Goodyear.

Previously we were one of Honda’s best advocates recommending the CRV whenever asked about it (the 1997 model). Can’t say we still have that enthusiasm.

The serial number of the car is JHRLE48569C006688.

At this point the only thing that will satisfy us is a check for half of the cost of the new tires and a recognition that this isn’t a normal expectation for a Honda car. We think that is a fair compensation for our time and inconvenience. We won’t know if the premature wear problem is fixed until we are 20,000 miles down the road, will we?

My wife and I are in our mid-sixties and we are both conservative drivers with literally no driving violation record, so if you are thinking we abused the tires – don’t go there!! I might also add that we have had 6-7 new cars over the years and this is the only time I have contacted customer service other than the local dealer. The point is that I am NOT a chronic complainer!

Sincerely

I received a call back from Aaron today and basically he told me Honda doesn't stand behind this problem. If there was a problem with tire wear he indicated it was my responsibility to discover it and go back to the dealer early on - I will not be recommending Honda cars to anyone in the future. I felt very brushed off by Honda. He even told me if I wanted to escalate it any correspondence had to go through him. Is that customer service????

CR-V EX 4WD 2.4L

After a little more than six months of driving on the Bridgestone tires which were installed on the Honda, the Honda service centre informed me that I had to replace a tie rod end and that all four tires needed to be replaced as the "belts had shifted" and there was uneven wear on the tires (down to 3/32). I attempted to have both the tire company Bridgestone and Honda Canada assist with the replacement cost, but after close to two months of waiting, I am no farther ahead with this. These tires should have given me between fifty and sixty thousand kilometres of wear, but did not. I am attributing the need for a tie rod end replacement to poor tire quality. As one client already described, the noise of the tires is deafening. I am not sure that it is safe to continue to drive on these tires.

Since I live in Canada, I will be installing "winter" tires shortly, but I would like to have the problem with the summer tires addressed. I do not feel that Honda should be allowed to ignore this problem. How many more people are out there being told that they need to replace their tires after only a short period of use? I have already contacted Bridgestone Canada and Honda Canada, and I am waiting for a satisfactory resolution of this problem.

In July 2009, i purchased a new 2009 Honda CRV. At 15000 miles in may 2010 both rear tires were worn down to 1/32 and 2/32. It cost me $200 to replace these tires from dealer. Then at 20000 miles only 3months later one of the brand new tires had belts that were separating and causing the steering wheel to shimmy at speeds above 60mph and pull the vehicle to the right. this was confirmed by the service tech at the dealer. Honda has a serious problem. Honda need to listen to the hundreds of complaints and hazards that have been caused by the faulty oem tires (especially the Bridgestone Duellers H/T 470).

Honda could be the next toyota if the don't soon wake up and take action to compensate those affected

Is Honda putting on questionable tires to cause the premature wear or could it be a mechanical failure with the wheels, brakes, wheel hubs, etc.Normally the first set of tires wear evenly, with proper rotation, on a new vehicle. 50,000 miles on the first set of tires is the norm and still the tires wear evenly. There have been 3 reports, with the same problem that I have and all the dealer has done for these folks is to have them replace their tires at there cost. Doesn't seem to me that Honda wants to put out much effort in fixing the problem at hand. Well, at least Toyota has recalled there problem cars and is making it right with their customers !

For a 27,000 dollar ride you would think Honda would put some decent tires on it's CRX, The tires are completely bald and with 500 dollar car payments, it is a bitch to have to spring for new tires. Another problem is when going down the highway and the rear windows are open, it sounds like a 757 jumbo jet is landing on your hood. I would like to see a full size tire put in the spare tire well.....that is it

I just found out the factory tires that came with my brand new Honda CR-V were crap. I had to spend over $700.00 to replace tires on a car that I have not even had a year. The mileage was only a little over 12,000....what the hell. I paid a significant amount of money for this car to be out this expense. This is my first Honda and probably my last. Come on Honda, I thought you put out a quality product. Put quality tires on your vehicles. Bullshit!!! I suggest any potential buyers insist on different tires or you are throwing your money away like I did.
