When you start the car it makes a very loud cranking sound. It is very embarrassing and I makes me feel like I am driving a junk car. This is a new car 2011 why is this doing this?

CR-V ES 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

Every morning since Oct. 2014, the car engine will grind when starting for the first time in my day. It does then start and every time there after for the day it starts fine. I have taken it to the local Honda dealer. They could not duplicate the problem and sent us on our merry way. The grind noise gets louder and I hold my breath in fear of being stranded when traveling distances.

The Honda dealer states that if this becomes a recall issue they will let us know.

Not sure I will buy a Honda again.

CR-V SE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

I notice that my car in the cold morning have hard times starting. The car would crank and start up and choke and die. Sometimes it will not even start and just crank. I am sure this had something to do with honda engine management not sending enough fuel to start up.

CR-V 4DSW

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,500 miles

I have read numerous complaints regarding CRV start up problems on the Internet. I have reported numerous starter problems that range from grinding noises to the yesterday's problem. My car failed to start five times prior to it being towed to the Honda dealer. At the dealership I was told that the engine did not have any compression and that they had not seen a car with this type of problem. They attempted to start the car two times and also could not.

I received a phone call at 4 pm informing me that the car started and that they were suspecting that my car had been flooded (allegedly due to my stepping on the gas pedal when I started my car). Not true. The dealer kept my car overnight and now I wait to hear from them this morning. Based on my Internet research with other consumers who have experienced similar problems the car will start, there will be no repair and I will be sent on my way until it happens again.

This is quite frustrating since I no longer feel that I can trust when my car will turn on- the grinding noises that I reported were never documented in writing. My only consolation is that the two service advisers are employees at Tempe Honda.

Update from Jan 3, 2013: As expected the dealer called this morning to inform me that they cannot find the reason for my car not starting yesterday. After various start attempts, the CRV has started each and every time. The service adviser did inform me that the oil in my car was showing evidence of gasoline - the oil would be changed at no charge. Also since the CRV has only 12,300 miles and the fact that I drive only 4 miles round trip everyday to work this may be causing the no start problem.

Recommendations were the following: find a way to drive 25 miles per week and change the oil every 3500 miles. I had no idea that starting a car or I should say a CRV requires driving more each day in order to ensure that my car starts.

I have problems starting my 2011 CRV. I've only had it for about 3 weeks. The past 2 weeks, I noticed upon turning the ignition, the car does not start. Instead, I have to take the key out and turn the key several times before the vehicle starts up. Occurred 2x already within the 2 week period.
