CR-V EX

  • Automatic transmission

My wife had an issue a month ago where the steering wheel was locked and was able to unlock it at the time. This time, it locked again and it we couldn't get it unlocked and had to have it towed to the dealership where they said they have to replace the whole EPS control unit for $850. The car is only 6 years old and this is the 2nd major problem I had with it (had to change the timing chain last year because apparently the previous owner didn't do oil changes frequently enough).

CR-V EXL AWD 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,000 miles

My wife had a problem with her power steering, it locked up while driving on the highway. Thankfully she was able to pull off the road with no harm done. Thinking it was low on fluid I discovered it was an electric assist power steering system. After doing a little research, I find that Honda seems to have quite a track record for 2013 model Honda's with this same issue. This is a huge concern and should be addressed immediately before a needless life will be taken at the account of ignorance.

We have the oil changed and tires rotated at the dealership. 5 days later, the EPS light came on traveling back roads in afternoon with speeds under 30mph. It's hot this time of year, and we thought that may have something to do with it. Later that night, the EPS light came on twice within a few miles. The steering wheel becomes super hard to turn. We pulled over, turned off, and everything seemed to reset.

After researching the manual, we found some Electric Power steering (EPS) guides about turning wheel all the way left or right and holding can cause system to warm up and shut down. (The system goes into protected mode). We took to the car back to the dealership, but they claimed there were unable to find anything wrong with the car. 27 point inspection was clear and no codes to be found.

Today, while sitting idle for 10 minutes waiting on rain to stop in order to play tennis, the EPS light just clicked on! This is super annoying, and believe we have to try and take car in to dealership while the EPS is on, otherwise; they are unable to provide any suggestions. Any fixes or resolutions from other members would be a huge help.

CR-V EX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

The power Steering failed abruptly as my wife was pulling out of the parking lot. Yellow steering light came on on the dash, Very stiff - impossible to steer the vehicle. This is a serious safety issue if it had happened while driving and not to mention my wife had our kid with her in the car while this happened. Got the vehicle towed to the dealership. Waiting for their response. Very disappointed grrr....!
