CR-V EXL 2.4L 16v

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,996 miles

As I pulled onto a side road from main busy street, my car hesitated as I stepped on the gas. I thought I must have hit the level for Slow gear...of course to do that I would have to push knob in. It gave me a fright-and lucky no one was coming off the main road behind me at that time.

When I mentioned this to my friend, he thought I might have a some sort of braking system which slows car when heading downhill. I went on line to this site to see if others have experienced this problem.

CR-V LX 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 35,500 miles

We have been dealing with the engine hesitation problem for almost two years. We have been told by the dealer that the issue is caused by anything from the CVT transmission to accidentally hitting the brake pedal before stepping on the gas pedal.

After taking the vehicle to the dealer the last time, one of the automotive techs wanted me to try a possible solution. He suggested that after starting the vehicle, simply turn off the traction control feature before driving away. So far, every time I have driven the car with the traction control on, the engine hesitation comes back. As long as the traction control is turned off, the vehicle drives as it should.

We will be taking the vehicle back to the dealer to find out why this might be happening. If we have to drive the CR-V with the traction control off from now on, then so be it. We can live with it.

CR-V AWD EX-L 2.4L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 36,732 miles

When accelerating from a stop, the car will move into traffic & when the accelerator is pressed, nothing happens. It's as if the ignition switch was turned off. it is unpredictable & impossible to duplicate. Typically, it is severe in that you're expecting there not to be an issue in merging into traffic. Instead, you mash the accelerator and the car doesn't move. I am terrified I will be hit broadside when I pull into traffic and the car fails to respond to accelerator input.

I experienced the problem initially thinking it was something I was doing wrong. After my husband drove it several times, he experienced the same problem.

We have both had the same issue occur multiple times. The Honda dealership says they may need to keep the car for several days in order to get the problem to manifest itself. Honda USA Consumer Affairs has no knowledge of the problem & there are no TSBs according to research my husband has done.

CR-V

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

I have noticed this a few times while pulling out of my housing area from a stopped position but thought maybe it was my foot position or something. Yesterday I was in Charlotte NC in traffic and as I stepped on the gas peddle I felt the engine hesitate before accelerating. I quickly checked the gauges to make sure the engine wasn't dying on me and they were all fine. No check engine light came on. The engine seemed to work fine after this episode. This is the first time I have noticed this in traffic. Usually it has been when accelerating from a stopped position. I was not going fast because there was stop and go traffic. I honestly worried the rest of the day driving the car. This is not normal. I have been driving for over 25 years and I know when a car hesitates. I paid enough for a brand new car (only had 40 miles on it when I purchased it) and this should not be an issue at 12,000 miles.

HAD ALL THE ACCELERATION COMPLAINTS AS OTHERS, HESITATION AT LOW SPEED, BOGS DOWN AT LEFT TURN, A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS. DEALERSHIP SAID PROBLEM IS INHERENT WITH ALL CVT TRANSMISSIONS. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF THIS B.S. I DECIDED TO BLOW THE TIRES UP TO SPECS. GUESS WHAT! THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY GOOD ACCELERATION AT LOW SPEED, DOESN'T BOG DOWN ON LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS. HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS! IF THE DEALERSHIP'S P.D.I. DEPARTMENT DID THEIR JOB CORRECTLY, (CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE), I WOULDN'T HAVE ALL THE STRESS.

severe hesitation on aggressive accelaration, reoccurring

Dealership in denial, multiple similar complaints, can be dangerous for car to bog down during aggressive acceleration. Similar complaints on same problem with Honda CRV, mine is a 2016 model.

CR-V

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,800 miles

So when I try to accelerate the CRV from about the 20mph range, it actually decelerates and I can press the pedal to the floor for a few seconds bringing the vehicle to a near stop and then the transmission picks up.

Dangerous if trying to move in traffic. Making the problem worse...it is intermittent, never know if its going to happen. Bought the car new and problems started at the 2 month mark. Have had the new car in the shop 4 times, much test driving until the service manager witnessed the problem herself when it happened with her in the car. Still no fix but they are trying some valve seals or such??? Avoid this model.

CR-V EX 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 599 miles

On Dec 19, 2016, our 2016 CR-V warmed up for 5-6 minutes before we drove out. Temperatures were in single digits, and had been below 0 overnight.Drove slowly about 1/3 block, then turned left onto busy avenue. The engine stumbled for 2-3 seconds, then caught with a jerk.

CR-V EX 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 552 miles

Between Dec 12 and Dec 16, 2016, the engine of our new CR-V stumbled when trying to accelerate as we pulled out of a parking lot onto the street. This happened at just the point that you push down on pedal to blend with traffic. Each time was when turning right, and the car was sitting off 15 - 40 minutes after being well warmed up. Temperatures were below freezing all this week.

Update from Sep 18, 2021: After a couple of visits to the selling dealer, they finally got to the bottom of my problem. If one foot has even slight pressure on the brake pedal, the accelerator will not work. For some reason, I had developed the habit of using both feet until I got into traffic. By making sure I was not touching the brake pedal when I wanted to accelerate, my hesitation problems disappeared.

CR-V EX 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 612 miles

On Dec 23, 2016, with temps in low 30s, I started the car cold and drove 1/3 block to the end of our street. Turned to the right, and when I had entered the avenue and pushed on accelerator to merge with traffic, there was a slight hesitation - less than a second - before the car responded. This was much shorter than the previous problem on the 23rd, and about half the time of the original 3 instances.

CR-V SE 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 2,485 miles

i never had a brand new vehicle that did this before. It hesitates when i go to change lanes or passing which on a two lane highway could be deadly. When pushing on the gas to pass you all of a sudden have nothing. It doesnt do it from a stop ,just when changing lanes at highway speeds all other times seems ok.

Update from Dec 12, 2016: Ihad it into honda and they road tested and checked it on the computer, of course they couldnt find any problems.I figured that would happen because its an intermittent problem. This morning 12/12/2016 on the way to ottawa it almost quit a dozen times(around 6000 k on the odometer) i didnt feel to safe nursing it down the 417 to ottawa. When i went into honda to tell them its the same story until it quits and comes in on a hook they are not going to be able to fix it,that sucks.

afetr stop, auto has no response to acceleration - infrequent

The problem has occurred on three occasions. Auto fails to respond, after stop following acceleration. On all three occasions, the incident occurred at the point of attempting to merge traffic. The problem definitely presents a safety hazard.
