rear window shattered without apparent cause rear window shattered without apparent cause rear window shattered without apparent cause rear window shattered without apparent cause rear window shattered without apparent cause rear window shattered without apparent cause

I was sitting my newly bought Honda City, only 10 days old, ~600km mileage. Its ignition was on, but car wasn't moving. I was on the driving seat, waiting for my home's garage door to be opened so I can park the car. I wasn't on main road, and there weren't any cars driving close by. Suddenly I heard two loud explosions. The second one occurred after a few moments (1-2 seconds) after the first. My family was also sitting in the car and we all panicked as to what was happening. I looked in the rear mirror and noticed that the rear window wasn't see through anymore. I at once realized the rear window is giving up. It had shattered into thousands of pieces, but it was still intact in the frame. As I moved the car few meters to enter the garage, some pieces of it started to fall off.

It all happened in the evening at around 7PM, and the temperature outside wasn't extreme at all. I can't find any apparent cause of why the window gave up. You can see in the picture there are not impact signs.

I tried to followup with my local Honda center from where I had purchased the car. I took the car to them, but they have rejected to do any kind of analysis on the window to figure out what happened. Their rejection statement says, "It is impossible for car window to break on its own, so there has to have been some external impact". Quite an armchair analysis as no engineer from their department checked the car.

I tried to claim warranty for it, but from the attitude of local Honda representatives, it is apparent it will only be a waste of time and energy, so took the car to their body shop to get the window replaced.

I have pictures attached. The fallen off pieces can be clearly seen and I don't see any impact sign.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks.
