problem #5

Dec 152011

Civic DX 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,526 miles

distributor shoots oil inside the distributor cap and eventually clogs or stop working. Look for a distributor with lifetime warranty afterwards as I have a friend who replaced 3 of these on his 98 Honda Civic.

problem #3

Civic LX 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 170,000 miles

It will run and maybe sputter for a bit and then the tach goes to 0. Sometimes it will just die without warning. Other times it will "hiccup" and then recover. When it dies it can take anywhere from 3 to 20 mins to start again. It is intermittent and can happen anywhere from 2 times a day to once every 2 to 3 days, but has gotten more frequent as time has gone on.

Civic SI 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 118,061 miles

Car will first lose all acceleration with RPM going to 0 but engine still running. The engine then shortly dies and will take several minutes before it can start again. It's an intermittent problem that occurs every second or third day.

Civic

  • Manual transmission
  • 95,000 miles

I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, BOUGHT IT NEW. FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR JUMPS AND HESITATES UPON ACCELERATION. THE TACH JUMPS ALL OVER THE PLACE. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PULL UP TO A STOP SIGN THE TACH GOES TO ZERO AND THE CAR JUST DIES. IT NORMALLY STARTS RIGHT BACK UP, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. DID A COMPLETE TUNE UP ON IT INCLUDING REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER. DIDN'T SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. MORE RECENTLY I JUST HAD THE DISTRIBUTOR REPLACED. RAN GREAT FOR A DAY THEN ACTED UP THE SAME WAY AGAIN. I AM READY TO PULL MY HAIR OUT.

IS THERE ANYONE THAT HAS A CLUE WHAT IS WRONG? I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS PROBABLY ELECTRICAL BUT UNTIL IT COMPLETELY BREAKS WHO KNOWS WHAT IT IS. LAST NIGHT I TRIED TO START IT AND FOR 10 MINUTES I COULD NOT GET IT TO RUN AT ALL. I THOUGHT OKAY FINALLY IT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN. AN HOUR LATER I WENT OUT AND IT STARTED UP FINE. HELP!!!!!
