I knew that I had a shot motor mount when a PEP Boys mechanic working on my brakes showed it to me. When I had the control arm and sway bar bushings replaced a year later I also had the bad motor mount replaced. The front motor mount is an aluminum bracket with a round opening in which was a rubber grommet that actually held the engine. Half of this grommet was torn through. In the old days of automobiles a motor mount was a simple, solid metal bracket which attached the engine to the frame with two bolts, and not being a moving part, would never wear out. Not with a 2001 Honda Civic EX. Perhaps Honda engineers knew what they were doing when they designed this delicate motor mount, that some slack had to be incorporated, but having to replace this after only 42,000+ miles is a disappointment.
