Civic EX 1.7L 4

  • Manual transmission
  • 40,000 miles

When my 2001 Honda Civic EX was only 4.5 years old the SRS light would remain on all the time. I learned from my Honda dealer that this meant that the airbags wouldn't deploy. Honda wouldn't fix this problem as my car was no longer under warranty, so I had my favorite repair shop fix it. The problem was due to a bad air bag control module. This repair cost me more than $450. Four years later the SRS light would again remain on all of the time. I choose not to repair this because I drive very safely, maintaining good braking distance from cars ahead of me and the fact that I'm not rich enough to do this every four plus years. This is regrettable.

Civic LX 1.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

In August 2005 I was unfortunately involved in a car accident where I rear ended another vehicle at 55mph. The other vehicle left the accident & thankfully I wasn't injured. But to my great surprise, my seatbelt did not lock & my air bags did not deploy. I hit the steering wheel with my chest & to say the least it did not feel good. If the air bags had deployed I would have been seriously injured. I went to my local Honda dealership to inquire why both my airbags & seatbelt had failed. The mechanic told me I did not "hit the vehicle right" so my seatbelt did not lock up & the air bags did not deploy. I told him next time "my car will jump on top of the vehicle so I can hit it right."
