Problems with transmission began almost to the day when odometer turned 100k. Difficulty shifting into 1st, 2nd and 5 gear, reverse also a problem.

Update from Jun 3, 2012: Since this complaint the transmission has been replaced. The Honda certified mechanic had never seen the like. Eight times this transmission had to be removed and additional parts replaced. The parts were difficult to get and ridiculously expensive. 5 to 6 times what most Honda transmission kits cost.

On Saturday I drove to Myrtle Beach and I noticed my car was acting funny. It didnt want to shift properly. I pulled on the the free way and of course traffic was crazy so I had to press on the gas pretty hard. My car went to 45 MPH and over 6000 RPM! Thats when I knew there was something wrong. I pulled over to a gas station to check my fluids and guess what?? That damn tranny fluid was brown. No pink at all and a burning smell was comming from it. I drove it home and parked it. I called shops around my house to get thier opions on whats wrong with my car and 3 out of 4 said I need to get a new torque converter but they are all suprised because my car is a 2006 with 73000 miles. Of course they all want to charge an arm and a leg to fix it but I decided to let AAMCO take a look at it. So thats where it still sits waiting on the end results. Honda of course wont help with anything except empty my bank account more. I think it's bullshit. My car is well taken care of. I dont drive like an asshole or a speed demon. I get all the maintance done on time and from a professional shop. I dont do any back yard oil changes or anything like that. I either go to Honda or Jiffy Lube. I think HONDA should pay for a new transmission NOT me! I called Honda and they acted like I was nuts and out of my mind. The guy on the phone said it's NOT common a car my year and mileage would have a transmission problem. I asked if Honda is going to pay for it and the guy laughed and said no but I need to bring it in to them so they can take a look at it. Wow whatever loser!

Well I wish I'd found this website before I bought my car,Looking at the civic class,unfortunately I own the 2 worst model years.2001 AND a 2006 The 2001 had the Automatic Tranny go out,but not until 160,000 miles other than that the engine does not leak or burn any oil,now @ 195,000 miles,over all a good car.Now for my 06,just like the other complaints rear tires wear out way too early on the inside,already had 2 sets of brakes both front AND rear at only 47,000 miles.This week the Automatic tranny started acting up when in reverse,getting rid of this car soon.

Update from Jan 22, 2011: Well I took my car to a Transmission shop (NOT a HONDA Dealer) and had them check out my transmission.I was surprised when they told me the problem was NOT the tranny.They said it was a broken motor mount,......what? How can this be?They wanted $580 to fix it,told them to forget it,I'll be there in an hour to pick the car up.After doing some internet surfing and finding a civic forum,discovered that the motor mount has been a common problem.Passenger side top mount,bought it from hondapartsnow.com for $95 installed it myself today,took about an hour,problem solved,for now that is. If your car shakes/shudders really bad when putting in reverse,good chance this is your problem.

The car is the 2006 Civic Coupe with Navigation. After owning the car for only one year, I noticed I was having trouble stopping and that my car was whining all the time. I had my brakes checked even though I'd just had new ones put on. My very reliable independent shop told me that my transmission was not downshifting correctly, and that the whining was coming from my final drive (I'm not sure what that means).

I took the car to Honda, assuming it would be covered under my warranty. They kept the car for two days and decided to order a new transmission. The dealer claimed they'd called corporate headquarters about it and they said they "never had to replace this transmission in the entire US". They tried blaming my driving habits, but I don't know what I could possibly have done to this automatic car to cause the transmission to fail. They took the car for another two days in order to replace it.

Here it is a year later, and the problem is happening again. Exact same thing. I'll be adding another complaint about it after I call Honda.
