Researched the problem. Found out Honda had extended the warranty (was not informed of this) Called and set up a claim, and was told I had to work through dealership.

Went to dealer on Thursday 8/1/19. They took pictures, and said I would hear from them in a few days. Did not hear for a week. Called. Was told someone would call soon. Waited a few more days/ No call.

Called Honda and got a complaint representative assigned. She called the next day. We spoke and I explained the problem. Told her the dealership. She said she would contact them and get back to me. That was on Monday 8/12/19. Waited a week for her call. Nothing. Called her again on Monday 8/26/19. She put me on hold, and called the dealer. Came back and said someone would call yesterday or today. Still waiting!!!

This is the second Honda I've had with the same issue! I was assured when I bought my new Honda that the defective paint issues had been resolved since 2001 and I wouldn't have an issue with my newer 2012.... WRONG! here we are again in 2019 and so it begins, clear coat is peeling and it'll only get worse resulting in thousands for a new paint job or rendering in un-resaleable cause it looks like crap!! How can so many people have the same problem and still Honda gets away with this sub par product! If my car were 10+yrs old I get it, it happens but a car should make it at least 10yrs before the paint peels off!!! More people need to complain to force Honda to change

My vehicle is 6 years old with 69,000 miles on it. The paint is peeling where the back window meets the roof, its not an area that is touched at all. Honda states its not covered under any kind of warranty including the extended warranty I purchased separately.

I would expect to see the clear coat disappearing on a much older vehicle not paint chipping on a 6 year old car. I WILL NOT purchase a Honda again. Aren't Honda's supposed to last, not just mechanically?

After much research it appears this has been a problem for Honda for quite some time.

I purchased my Honda Civic in 2012. No issues until the last few months when I noticed the paint on the car hood was crackling. I tried to trade it in at a pre-owned car dealership and they suggested I take the car back to Honda. I did some research on the internet and I found many people with the same problem. I took it to Honda of Turnersville and I was immediately told that the car must have been repainted at some point. I am the only owner of the vehicle and I have NEVER had the hood painted for any reason. I was basically brushed off. So I am making a compliant here and will go back to Honda as many times as I have to until they do something about it.

Update from Apr 21, 2016: I was put in touch with the Warranty Administrator and she was extremely nice and very sorry for the way the service team treated me. The dealership is fixing the problem. Thank you Honda of Turnersville for taking care of the problem.

In January 2015 I noticed what looked like a drop of water on the hood on a clear hot day. When I touched it I realized it was a bubble in the paint. I thought that I would show it to the dealer later that month when I got an oil change. About a week later, I thought I seen a small piece of foil on the same spot, but when I went over to it I realized the bubble was gone and that was pure, shiny, bare metal. Bright and shiny like a new dime.

I showed it to the dealer, they said they thought a rock hit it and damaged it. There is no indentation, no collateral damage whatsoever, and the edges still show raised paint that was once the edges of the bubble. I was pissed and sent a long letter to Honda of America. They responded about 2 months later with a phone call, suggesting all they could do would be to have me take it to another dealer to look at it. So the alternative is to take a day off work and drive 70 miles to the next town over and have that dealer say that a rock hit it? Not the solution I was looking for.

I got the letter where Honda says they know there are known issues with their paint, and are therefore extending the paint warranty to 7 years from the date of purchase. What good does that do if all you are going to do is weasel out of any warranty claims?

I bought the car as a commuter to drive 60 miles from and to work. I bought the car in June 2012 and noticed paint chipping off the driver side under skirt after my first hard snow storm in February of 2014. I applied touch up paint and just turned the blind eye. I just blamed the paint chipping on the northeastern winter weather. A month later, I noticed the whole front end with paint chips down to the bare metal. It is a shame I didn't take a picture of the paint chips so I can upload to this website. I have already applied the touch up paint to save the hood, both fenders, and the A pillars on both sides from rust. The chips are down to the bear metal.

The Honda Dealership where I have my Civic serviced are not very friendly with warranty. They only want to perform express oil changes and brakes. Once I mention warranty, they would say make an appointment and bring it back, my interpretation is, "we are trying to make this hard for you to claim anything from Honda". The dealerships are just representing Honda, I believe the dealer performs the warranty work first but needs to claim Honda so dealers will not spot you first without approval from Honda, just my 2 cent.

With that said and done, I am very disappointed with Honda. This is the very first Honda I bought brand new and most likely the last Honda I will buy brand new. I owned numerous beat up Honda's prior to this purchase i.e 1986 Honda prelude, 1990 Honda prelude, 1989 Honda Civic LX, and 1991 Honda Accord LX 4 door all with no paint chip issues but with the general rust around the rear wheel well. I do wash the 2012 EX Coupe civic often and I have waxed the car twice...once before both winters it survived.

I am not a lawyer nor argumentative. I will be looking into trading in the car very soon. I will be looking into the Toyota Corolla or Prius C...but my experience with old Toyota's have been the same as Honda....very reliable. So, Toyota, please do not let me down.

In the past few months I have begun to notice a significant amount of chips and cracks on the paint of my black 2012 Civic EX Coupe. The hood is completely covered in them, and I have even found them on the doors and mirrors. Along with the chips are cracks, or "crow's feet".

From my research the cracks are caused by an improper painting process at the factory, and will grow worse over time. To my surprise, paint is not included in the factory warranty OR the extended warranty that I purchased. I am very concerned as to how my car will hold up over time especially due to the fact I will not be able to buy a new car for about 5 more years, and am not happy with the fact that Honda refuses to do anything about something that is clearly their fault.

Been noticed there are some "white dots" at the hood area lately, thought the hood is just dirty or chips from the rocks on the road. Then I took a closer look when I washed my car last week, was in total shocked after I realized the paint from half of the hood was chipping/cracking after barely over one year of purchase. I mean the paint is really CRACKING like the shell of a turtle. I've been so disappointed with the quality of this Honda since day one I bought this vehicle. From the "toy" material of the interior to the paint job, nothing is impressive but disappointment. Even though I am not an expert or auto mechanic but it is a no brainier to tell how thin the paint was put on this vehicle. Planning to bring it back to dealership on the weekend to see what they are going to say or do about this issue.

This is happening less than 3 weeks from purchasing this new car!

I have taken extremely good care with my brand new 2012 Honda Civic Coupe EX. Today I noticed two dark "specks" on my hood. After close inspection I saw that they were chipped areas of paint down to the metal. Dealer says it's probably stones that came up and hit her hood - but how shoddy is this paint job? I owned a 2006 Honda Civic DX with 144K miles on it and owned her for 6.5 years and NEVER had a paint issue. Others with brand new cars, and older cars alike, that I know do not experience such paint chips with their cars. Apparently the paint jobs are better. I am taking to the dealer tomorrow and they will look at it and tell me if they will cover it. If it isn't covered, I am keeping documentation, detailed photos, and will have it all in writing...so if this does need to go through class action or if I even get my own lawyer, my ducks are in a row.
