Civic

  • 75,000 miles
Car would either start engine on its own or turn on standby/accessory mode on its own. This would happen immediately after the car was shut off. Disconnecting the battery was the only way to stop it, this after it ruined the previous battery by constantly drawing power by the car starting itself. Dealer diagnosed it as a faulty body control module.

Turned car on to head to work, and all error codes appeared on dash one by one as well as engine light. All yellow lights. The car was still able to drive with no problems but it displayed on dash with every problem. Had no issue turning on, staying in motion, sitting idle for 2 hours, or braking, yet every issue was still on display after multiple startups. Called dealership and they said it was safe to drive, but I'm still bringing it in 2/19/2020 to get it looked at.

Civic

  • 72,000 miles
Driving along highway speed and the car brakes abruptly and the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. If this would have happened at rush hour, this would have caused a pile-up. If this would have happened in front of a semi, I might be dead. I moved across two lanes of traffic with no throttle control. The car regained throttle response after about 45 seconds.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shut off. The failure started when the alarm was activated and the key fob failed to unlock the door. The instrument panel indicated remote key system failure. The vehicle was later taken to (Honda of mentor located at 8555 market St, mentor, oh 44060, (440) 290-6017) where it was diagnosed that the computer system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

While driving my car will put the brakes on if another care passes me on drivers side. This did it for a few weeks, then the collision mitigation system light came on and will not clear. Cruise will not work. This has happened before, but never with light staying on.

And the the phone has been asking me to set up with blue tooth when I am driving. I have shut off the radio and it seems to re-set itself. This has been going on for about month. 11/09/19

I have had issues with my navigation system when I plug in my phone into the jack in the car. I have driven my vehicle to my Honda dealer and they witnessed my vehicle actually remove my phone and replace it with someone else's phone in my vehicle. My vehicle will not recognize the phone also even though I have my bluetooth on my I phone and it will not pair with my vehicle as well numerous times. The tech at Honda stated to me it is as if someone else is controlling the vehicle through your radio frequency. My car has been unlocked at times. Etc. I asked how this can occur and he stated if someone has your radio id or your key fob numbers. This is still occurring even though Honda re set the navigation system and settings to factory default. Now my trunk will not stay closed if something is in the trunk. Happens at all times in motion, staying still.

The car alarm blares randomly throughout the night and sometimes during the day and the car locks itself unable to use the key fob to turn off the alarm and unlock the door replaced the battery in the key fob seemed like a fix for a week now the instrument panel has 'keyless start problem' and won't go away and the car just turns itself to 'on' by itself and/or the alarm goes off also you have to put the actual key in the driver door to turn the alarm off and unlock the car this happens while the car is stationery after it's been driven and turned off for an hour or more

There are times when the power window (front passenger side) and sunroof are open that they can not be closed. The fix is to stop the car, restart it and then raise the window with the switch on the passenger door. That seems to reset it. When I ask the dealer to repair it they are not aware of a problem or service bulletin and therefor do nothing. When you ask Honda customer service they say take it to the dealer. There are countless entries on various auto blogs that talk about this problem with Honda vehicles, and the solution I mentioned above seems to be a temporary fix. Honda does nothing to try to repair this. This has happened when the vehicle was stationary and in motion.

Car trunk opens while driving (more than a dozen times to date); windows descend while locking car from outside; gas cap cover unlatches while locking car. Car doors have also unlocked while vehicle was parked, and thieves ransacked car on 2 occasions. I raised issues to dealer (who said they were impossible) and wrote manufacturer April 22; have received no response. Rust on tire rims. The electrical issues have been recurring since five months after I purchased the car to the present day.

I went to go start my vehicle after leaving work at 4 am, 5/9/2019. Upon trying to start my vehicle, the brake pedal was stiff. I could not start the vehicle. My car's lights started flashing, with a weird clicking noise being made. On the dashboard, the system started stating "electric parking brake problem". "manual brake problem", "stability problem", and a couple other errors. The vehicle was stationary, and upon doing research, this has been an issue with 2016-2018 Honda Civics. The emergency brake was not on, and I have never used that feature. At the time of this complaint, my vehicle is sitting in my work's full parking lot, and I am stranded.

Numerous NHTSA reports have been to waste as nothing is done. This 2017 Honda Civic ex hatchback continues to have electrical glitches since bought new in Dec. 2017. No problem (s) found. No codes. Unable to duplicate. Etc. Etc. Honda refuses to deal with this defective vehicle & servicing Honda dealers do not want this piece of crap Honda in their shops. Honda claims they have legal right to cancel all new vehicle warranties on this vehicle & owner cannot do anything legally about this. No us federal Agency has any control what Honda does in the us. Honda has become arrogant & abusive towards Honda customers & does not care.

I bought my 2017 Civic brand new in May 2017. Ever since I had this car the electronics don't always work. Volume doesn't always work on the steering wheel or on the digital radio. I'll have to turn the car off and then back on to be able to use the volume. Two different times my car wouldn't turn off while in park. I had to sit over 5 minutes in park before it would turn off with pushing the start button over and over. The radio goes staticky every time I use the defrost button. For the last 6 months my car now makes a beeping noise here and there that sounds like it's coming from the dash/radio. Doesn't matter if the car is in drive or park. Every time I brought my car into Honda they couldn't fix anything since the codes didn't pull up when they plugged their computer into my car. I do have a video of the noises that my car was making (beeping). So yes I still have the same issues with my car and in 2 months I will have owned my car for 2 years.

  • 60,000 miles
Ijuly 2017 is when I first noticed my car automatically re-setting while I was driving down the Florida turnpike at legal speed of 70 miles an hour! all of a sudden the car's dashboard illuminated with every colored warning light & a spinning-doted circle light as if car computer was searching for a signal or being remotely reset! the radio turned off, the screen went black, the computer dashboard flashed until finally the 'H' Honda logo appeared on the radio screen resetting itself. Scaring me to believe the car was shutting down or about to malfunction while I was driving! three months later the radio, satellite, side mirror camera, rear backup camera every thing associated with the computer brain of this car completely went out! nothing can be reset through the radio as it's just stuck. Honda dealership has no explanation other replacement for safety! dealership reached out to Honda for assistance as I've exceeded 36,000 mile complementary warranty. Honda actually took responsibility for this malfunction at first, stating they would pay/cover majority of cost leaving balace of $300. I found this to be crazy, as this electical malfunction was no fault of my own & should initiate recall! as I now have no way of knowing if all system warning lights are error or actual safety warnings! I have no rear camera or side mirror camera due to this radio/computer malfunction! this is a danger driving this car so I contacted Honda and explained I was willing to pay the $300 for replacement. Only to be told their offer to pay/cover malfunction errors was no longer on the table, giving no reason why offer was revoked! the claims adjuster and her manager then very rudely & disrespectfully hung up the phone! I feel unsafe everytime behind the wheel of this car! please aid in establishing a recall

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the failure recurred intermittently and could potentially result in a crash. The vehicle was taken to big island Honda hilo (75-5608 kuakini hwy, kailua-kona, hi 96720, 1-(808) 961-5505) to be diagnosed and test driven, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
