problem #2

Jul 202016

Civic Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 66,000 miles

The estimate to fix the problem was $2,468.23. However, they did not have any parts available. The manufacturer (Honda) estimated that one of the two parts needed would be available 9/8/2016. The other part was TBD (they had no estimate for when it would be available. This means that even though I was willing to pay to get the A/C fixed, I could not get it fixed. For a car that has less than 70,000 mile on it and is only 5 years old, the A/C compressor should not quit working. Also, I was told at the one dealer that the reason they did not have parts available is that so many of the cars had problems that they had to manufacture more parts. I would definitely recommend avoiding the 2012 make and model.

Civic Hybrid IMA

The air compressor went out on my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid in Blythe California, 2 hours from home, in 112 degree heat. I called Tempe Honda and was told they had so many cars to fix that they would not even look at my car until after the 4th of July. I drove my car to work the next day in 115 degree heat. I drove my car to AutoNation Honda in Tucson on July 2, 2015 because they had openings and I thought I would drive it down without AC in the morning and I would drive it back fixed. And so began the saga of no hope of air conditioning until December of 2015 at the earliest.

After agreeing to pay extra to have the only company in America that had an air compressor available overnight the part, I was told on Friday that the compressor was defective. Every time the car was started with the new compressor the fuse blew. I was then told that another part would not arrive until after the 4th of July. On Tuesday, July 7th another compressor arrived and it too was defective. This time I was told that a high voltage wire was bent and it could not be installed at all. So then I was told that the manager spoke to the company in Florida and was assured that another compressor would be sent out the next day and this time they would be sure to package it so that it would not get damaged. I was told this part would not arrive until Thursday July 9th, 2015. The part did not arrive and then on Friday, July 10th I was told that there was no part and I needed to pick up my car with the broken air compressor reinstalled as no part was available in the entire country!

I filed a complaint with American Honda and was told that there was nothing they could do as there really are no air compressors available; AutoNation put the part on the critical list and I will receive one as soon as it becomes available. This is unacceptable. I live in Phoenix Arizona. Now I know people live without AC but I bought a Honda because I didn't want to live without AC or a broken down car. I wanted a reliable vehicle at a good price. I originally leased the vehicle but I put so many miles on it, I decided to purchase it. Worst decision of my life in retrospect. How do you produce and sell a vehicle that can not be fixed? I owe $14,000 on the car so I am upside down and who will take a car that can't be fixed until December as a trade in? Nobody in Arizona will buy a car without AC. I believe I have a lemon. My car is not usable here in Phoenix. I will NEVER buy Honda AGAIN! And this is my 3rd Honda...
