Element LX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

I am writing concerning my 2004 Honda Element. My transmission recently went out and had to be replaced. After looking online I saw where the transmission in this make and model appears to consistently have problems and requires replacing. I also saw online where there had been a recall on transmissions for this make and model and wondered if mine had been recalled as well. I bought the Honda because of the reputation for lasting and being reliable vehicles. I see 20 year old Hondas on the road every day. My Honda only has 160,000 miles and I expected to get many more miles out of it before having to make such a costly repair. The total cost with labor and parts came out to $3,200. This is a very big expense and one I had not planned on making because I had bought what I believed to be a reliable and quality vehicle. My very first car was a 78 Honda Civic Hatchback and I purchased it on a Saturday and left for work on Monday and the transmission died. I swore then that I would never buy another Honda but completely fell in love with the Element and purchased it used in 2012. My current boyfriend had his go out on his 2001 Passport after only 3 years, and my neighbor (who suggested I write this) had hers go out a couple of years ago on her civic. I am writing this to ask if there is anything Honda can do to help me with this expense and help me keep my strong positive opinion of Honda. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
