clear coat defective

Honda should be ashamed this is clearly a defective paint issue and they are aware of this but continue to produce vehicles with this blue pearl color. I have owned several Honda and never was disappointed before now. Vehicles can go several decades without any paint issues.

clear coat defective

I noticed that the paint on my hood and roof were starting to get cloudy about two years into owning my car. I was told at the time that this was normal wear and tear on the vehicle. Fast forward to the present and this condition has spread a great deal so that my car looks terrible. The clear coat wipes away in a powder just with the pad of my finger. The paint underneath seems to be holding up (no exposed metal) but the clearcoat is just falling apart.

clear coat defective

The clear coat on the roof of my 2010 Honda Fit is significantly peeling. I know this is just a cosmetic issue, but it really looks awful and will significantly decrease the value of the car. It looks like this is also a problem with the 2009 Fits, and especially bad with the blue color. If you are having a similar problem, please post and include pictures.

clear coat defective

I have had my Honda Fit for just under 6 years. A couple of years ago I started to notice that the paint was peeling on the roof and hood. Now the paint is nearly gone from the roof, with metal showing in places. The hood has a patch that I have no doubt will grow given time. This is otherwise a great car, but it's embarrassing to drive around with a car that looks like it belongs in Nu Finish commercial. From what I understand from blogs I've read, Honda takes no responsibility for the defective clear coat on its vehicles, claiming that it is normal wear and tear. repainting one of these cars could cost upwards of $3,000, which is prohibitive. This car is too new to look this old!

The clear coat should not be fading and eroding like it is with the paint oxidizing.

The clear coat on the bumper of my 2010 Fit started chipping, in addition to problems with the so-called carpet inside. The service rep at Sunny King Honda informed me that Honda would not replace the "carpet", and, since there was a small stone chip about 1/4 inch away from the peeled section, the clear coat on the bumper would not be replaced.

I was called once when the the district rep was in town and I informed the service rep that I could not make it because of work. I never heard back from her. The peeled section was approximately 1 square inch in area and I was told to expect this because these particular Hondas had cheap paint.

I am greatly disappointed in quality of clear coat finish of my new 2010 Honda Fit. The color is crystal black pearl. The purchase date is 4/23/2010. After I hand washed and dried the first time, a few weeks after my purchase. I dried correctly w/ chamois. I afterwards noticed dull grey spots on roof and what appeared like water marks on exterior surface. On side of vehcile there are little white specks. I had detailer and professional auto body shops examine vehicle and all say it is of a clear coat manufacturer defect. The spots and specks are clearly eroded through the clear coat finish. I have been told the only solution was for me to have my vehicle color sanded and buffed, possibly painted.

I filed case w/ American Honda Motor Corporation. The Regional Parts and Service Manager who came out to investigate the problem, was arrogant, rude and had absolutely no professional customer service skills. The Case Manager from Honda was like a robot and also no professional customer service skills. I was told it wasnt a warrantable condition. I then wrote the President of American Honda Motor Corp. I received a telephone call w/ voicemail stating it was received and Honda Case Mgr. will contact me. I was contacted to be told by the Case Mgr. that it wasnt a warrantable condition.

To date they have said it isnt a warrantable condition but something that is from the environment. My car was of a dealer trade and was driven from Georgia to Sumter, SC, a distance of 306 miles. I feel this car was in this condition and I did not notice, as I was extremely excited about be a proud new owner of a Honda. I did not notice until I was up front and personal w/ my vehicle after washing it for the first time a few weeks old.

I currently have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and hearing is scheduled for August 18th in Columbia, SC. This circumstance has deeply disturbed me, and Honda has not given me a reasonable and just solution. My experience has been very surprising for a company with such an outstanding reputation. If it is Honda's VISION to create products that maximize the joy of customers, this is definitely a step in the wrong direction. I have been sickened by the lack of reaction to this problem. I have been truly disappointed to the lack of attention I have received to this matter. This just is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.

To date Sumter, SC Goodwin Automall where I purchased my vehicle have not made any contact with me. PLEASE anybody who has had a similar experience, PLEASE respond as I need as many individuals to come forth for my case is actively being pursued with American Honda Motor Corp. Thank you.Sandra
