problem #2

Ridgeline RTL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Driving to work, about 5 minutes on the highway, noticed the the temp gauge pegged hot. No lights so I figured a sensor malfunction. Then it pegged cold right before steam came pouring out the engine compartment. Immediately turned off the highway and into a driveway turned off the engine. Auto shop told me about another Honda that had the same issue. Not a huge town so it must me common. Luckily my transmission seems ok. Not so for that other Honda.

Ridgeline RTX 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,754 miles

Came back from vacation. Picked up the truck from the parking lot. After about 3 miles noticed that AC is not cooling right. Glanced over to the all instruments and noticed that the coolant temp was very close to "H". Pulled to the shoulder and opened the hood. Could not see any leaks and the overflow container was OK. After 15 min. started again, this time put the heat on, not the AC. After 5 min had to stop again. Finally had to call towing service to take it home 35 miles ($140).

Monday got it to the Coggin Honda of Saint Augustine. They called me back and told me that the radiator has internally failed and ATF fluid has mixed with the engine coolant. They have to replace the radiator, flush the engine, flush the transmission and parts and labor will cost me $1340. On the Ridgeline forum there were a lot of people having same problem.

Why Honda has not addressed this issue? Is it because it is not a safety issue? I love my Ridgeline and am planing to keep it until it dies on me. But now I am very disappointed. How can Honda, a car company with a good reputation, treat its car owners like this. I wish there was a class action about this problem. Only if their reputation is threatened maybe they will do something about it. I will let you know if all is OK. Because some suggesting that may be a new transmission will be needed. I hope not!!!!
