The Traction Control never worked on this car and this winter I had a close call that reminded me that I should do something about it. So I brought it to the dealership this morning. In a nutshell, when changing lanes on the expressway and crossing through a mound of snow or slush, shallow or deep, it never kicks in and I have to really fight to keep the car going straight. My previous car, a Malibu and also my older Grand Am would always kick in instantly and I never really felt going through that snow; it performed flawlessly on

both cars. Ditto when accelerating at a green light; the Accent is all over the road and the Traction Control never kicks in. The ABS which I am told uses the same system, sometimes causes the car to lurch to one side if for instance one side is on snow and the other suddenly hits the pavement. Again. my two previous cars did respond correctly. So it was checked at the dealership, and it was found that there were no fault codes, and that it was working correctly. This means to me that it is by design: not designed to fail, but designed with a certain sensitivity threshold which is not appropriate for a real life situation. On their test bench, it worked fine. In the streets or the highway, it doesn't. It seems that the system needs a bigger difference in the traction of the front wheels before turning on. Hyundai should review that. They lost me as a customer. Two days ago, the weather was bad and even though I was not driving as fast as usual, I had a hard time at one point. Fortunately, I regained control.
